Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

You know what's the worst?

It's not that I was laid off after more than a decade of exemplary work and it's not that the severance was nowhere near what it should have been to show me that I was valued by the company for my contributions over the years. No, it's the fact that my job was re-posted within weeks only at significantly lower pay. It means that they believe that somebody with no experience and probably barely out of school can do my job as well as I did. That's how highly they think of all of us. And that's what's the worst.

Allstate is desperate to eliminate expenses across the whole platform. It’s severely handicapped by being a publicly traded company and not a mutual, as well as headquartered in an expensive market for talent and real estate in Chicagoland. This translates into the need to slash jobs, hire less costly employees to do traditional tasks and get as lean as possible as fast as possible. Allstate is going to be a ruthless place way more than it is today. It stopped being the paternal employer where you could kick back and have a solid 25 year plus career. It is what it is. Those nostalgic for the past are doing themselves a disservice because it’s never coming back. Either keep your nose clean and muddle your way through until retirement or when they get rid of you, or get busy reinventing your career and go get a job elsewhere.

None of us are valued whether laid off or a current employee. They haven't valued employees for a number of years now.

And the fact the positions eliminated are re-posted at lower pay bands shows they don't even value the work itself like they did. Combine that with the remaining employees being doubled up in roles and duties and a $50,000 a year job becomes a $25,000 a year job. We are being looked at as less value and worth and they have no shame in trying to hide the fact. This also shows that they do not value customers and agents as in they are now enduring longer hold times, longer process times, and a newer less tenured quality of service and lower professionalism as a result.

This folks is Transformative Growth. Get more for less and eventually move the whole mess to India for $2 an hour and a bowl of rice.

And the fact that they did it in a worldwide pandemic. We will never forget that. We will forever spread the word how Allstate exemplified greed in America. They sold our
Jobs off to India. They don’t care about customers either. Rates continue to increase. Police, Fire, State, County and City office workers, Teachers, Nurses, have unions. Why? Because they need them. This would have never happened this way if there was a Union. Yes, it may have still happened, but not the way it did. We would have been able to maintain at least some dignity. We have had no one to negotiate for us. Managers are wolves in sheep’s clothing. Only looking after themselves. Who supports the workers at Allstate ? People on this blog I guess. Guarantee there will be more pain to come thanks to not being represented.

What you know and trained for is obsolete because of Allstate's outdated methods. The company is for better or worse, attempting to modernize to catch up to competitor practices, costs, and what passes for after customer acquisition service (read India) and claim processing. Your skills are not as valuable as it once was, and that's just the plain and sad reality. If you are in customer facing sales and actually bring in revenue above minimums with minimal overhead costs, you'll make out quite well under the new commission schedule. There are jobs that are much more secure if you have the skills for them, because no company has enough rainmakers who bring in the bacon.

It’s like John Kerry said yesterday . Your skills will allow you to work in more green jobs. Or in his words you shoulda got better skills to begin with.
