Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Who decides who goes and who stays?

Who decides who goes and who stays? The supervisor says he didn't know it was happening. How could he not. 5 field people in the same position and 1 gets canned. And the boss says he had no part in the decision.

The decision was made by the people that don’t have a clue. Therefore, bad decisions.

I’m a manager. I had no say. Decisions by VPs, Sr. Managers and Directors. Had to follow the Skype bubble colours like everyone else. Some Sr. Managers had input, some didn’t.

In operations, your manager or management team makes the decisions, they are instructed to say they were unaware and the cuts were decided by higher management. I got this directly from a retired manager of an energy company no longer operating in Canada.

There are three factors driving decisions.

  1. Your salary (you would have noticed by now most of people let go by now where hired during high oil prices years they had higher compensation and were cut)
  1. Overlapping roles or wherever VPs felt certain functions were no longer necessary. New Cenovus is not integrated or E&P its just P - Production company so only those people needed who are essential to make oil flow from one location to another
  1. Age factors. Millenials prefered over baby boomers

If school parents and life in general didn't teach you that you must've had a pampered upbringing.

I often wonder where I signed on this job would last forever. Or the marriage, the life of a child, or my dog, Blue. Would it matter if you knew who made the decisions? What would that info change?
Life will chew you up and spit you out when you let it. Safety meetings don’t tell you that. Schools certainly don’t teach it. HR won’t. Be thankful you have a beating heart to experience this life. Ups and downs. If you have hot water in your home, you’re one of the richest people on the planet. You’ll get by.

It seems to have been from a super high level. There were boxes and they put people in them. Largely not Husky people.
