Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Top Down

Companies tend to succeed or fail from the top down. No matter how good the people under are, they are restricted by the people above them. Good workers are hampered by poor management. Good management is handcuffed by poor executives. Good ideas are left to die by poor leadership. When the focus is on stock price, executive bonuses, and cashing out while you can, there is no focus on product, customers, or innovation.

As the saying goes, "The fish rots from the head down." That pretty much sums up the structure of Moneyhell. The fastest way for a mediocre manager to make his way up the corporate ladder is to have keep the sharpest axe among his peers in his drawer and be willing to carry out the king's orders to cut costs without hesitation. Of course the best among them will get the order to cut 10% of his people and will gladly sacrifice a few more just to be heralded as he bloodiest of them all. The ones most willing to wield the axe are the ones who get promoted in the poor leadership companies. Sadly, most all of the American Industrial Sector corporations are in fact pathetically managed. Grossly overpaid CEO's are put into a bubble where they're told stories of rainbows and unicorns with sweet songs playing in the ears, while workers are told lies and robbed of benefits to "make the numbers." I could go on, but it's all been said before. Work at a smaller company, or in a different industry and avoid Honeywell like the plague.

It's amazing how long big companies can succeed in spite of themselves.
