Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Will they offer severance?

Hopefully they offer severance with the next round. They do about 80% of the time but there have been a few instances of large layoffs, I know of two specifically where they didn’t, where no severance was offered. With my luck this would be one of those rare times.

I hope we'll have better luck. It would be horrible not to offer severance, but nothing would surprise me anymore.

There are no federal laws in the US requiring that a company offer severance. There is a federal law requirement under the W.A.R.N. Act requiring that companies give at least 60 days notice of a layoff in certain circumstances, and if that is not followed severance may be required.

As far I have been able to find, only Idaho, Maine, Massachusetts and Rhode Island have state laws that require severance under certain circumstances.

fyi, check with your state regarding severance before taking the next assessments and accepting severance if you are a newer employee. My last day was 11/28 and the severance was to be paid out within 60 days. I received severance on 12/24. In KS, apparently you are not eligible for UI until you receive the severance, then there is a waiting week (which may be waived, it's up in the air, KS DOL is abysmal.) In my case Allstate paid me two weeks and was basically off the hook for around 7 weeks of unemployment. The absolute feeling contempt and prayers of horrible things happening to those in charge is off the charts.

Future Severance is a pipe dream. Shapiro didn’t want to give it in 2020, but Tom over ruled him. Lotsa Luck with seeing it moving forward.

Well either Allstate has broken the law in the past or were really good at finding a loophole in that because I personally know of a few occasions when over 100 people were let go in a single RIF and got no notice 60 days or otherwise.

So the law on it is severence pay is only required if over 100 people are laid off and a 60 day notice was not given.

Most likely severance would be offered for future layoffs as it usually has been in the past but as that original post states there have been rare layoffs with a decent amount of impacted employees in which Allstate did not offer severance. I am one of them. Over 400 impacted and no severance. Luckily I was assisted into another position within the company shortly after. If I were a getting man I would say a severance package would be offered in the event of another large round of layoffs but we should not see that as a guarantee.
