Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Indifference is worse

Nothing Hon has done in the last year surprises me anymore. I used to get upset, angry, even indignant. Now I feel nothing. Every day is the same routine, come in, make my rounds, do my work, then clock out. Get paid for the work I do and that’s about it. I used to care about the company, but I don’t any more. How sad is that?

I have stayed only out of inertia. Honestly things I heard from some departed VPs during multiple skip levels completely and permanently chilled my Honeywell ambition.

My site leader tells us every morning, loudly, how leadership knows what is important. Since I don’t need to do any thinking at all ... I am free to just enjoy marking time 8x5. Pessimism helps. Layoffs and continuous “sky is falling” messages every quarter tends to emotionally reward pessimism.

Long ago I decided that there are three important things about a specific job situation, or offer. Most of us aren't lucky enough to get all three maxed out at the same time, but I think two out of three is tolerable but not just one.

They are, in no particular order: overall pay package, location, and job content (including travel amount). When only one or zero are OK, it's time to move on whether it is to a new job or retirement.

Signs of a burnout when you stop caring. Talking to a wall is futile. After awhile, you get tired and stop caring. Meanwhile, celebrations at the upper levels of management- congratulating themselves for job well done.

Sounds a lot like a dead end job to me. I know the feeling. The upside is I've never slept better, stress has never been lower, and I can hear myself think. But now what? Where do we go from here? I liked working here a lot more when I felt like I served a purpose.
