Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

No point in trashing AT&T

We all know it’s been a mismanaged t–d hole since Stephenson took over, and it’s going to get worse on Stink’s watch. Face it and accept it. If you’re within 10 years of retirement, ride it out and hope for the best. They’re not going to get rid of everyone. If you’re just starting out, get some training or schooling on their nickel, give them 5 years, and get out. What’s the big deal?

People here don't want to hear about responsibility and building their own skills. They expect AT&T to provide everything for them.

It's really sad and pathetic to watch.

Geez! What a bunch of lunatic rants! If you despise the company....leave. Lots of open positions for AI and machine intelligence. Lots of Data Scientists jobs as well. Most pay well into mid 6 figures. Oh wait...that requires focusing on you changing...something far more difficult than whining on this forum.

Publicly traded companies which espouse the "employees are our greatest asset" line, but operate in a very different manner absolutely deserve to be exposed. Period. They sell bologna disguised as prime rib.

I read posts and get the feeling you think the company owes you something. The company doesn't owe you anything & loyalty has nothing to do with it. Have you not been paid every pay day? Have they given you IOU's? A good days pay for a good days work. You are responsible for your own job security by continuing to learn new technology and anticipate jobs of the future then go to school and learn to do them. You have to take ownership for your own value to the company and then you will have job security. Feeling secure also comes from making good decisions in life. For example living within your means and staying out of debt. If you really think about what is so stressful in your life it's that you owe too much money on a monthly basis and can't save. Do you really need the home that it takes 2 incomes to make the payments? It would be less stressful to be able to make your mortgage payment with one salary and still cover the other bills. Live within your means is not buying the brand new car, boat, motorcycle, property at the lake. Years ago people bought homes basing what they could afford on one weeks pay. They had one reliable car and they only financed a car for 36 months. So it was paid off in 3 years. You can still do that but you can't have all the whistles and bells. You're not going to grow into a huge mortgage payment anymore by getting continued raises. Many get bonuses now which isn't guaranteed as salary is. The best advice I could give younger people is live within your means so you can put money away. Focus on paying your home off so when it is time to retire you won't have a house payment. Don't give your kids everything. Make them learn the value of the dollar and how capitalism functions. To have something you have to work for it. Too many people now days think somebody or the government owes them a living. IMO

Some purveyor of the corporate narrative sez: "Changing companies and taking ownership of your career comes down to you and no one else. If you have to change jobs or industries to survive...do it." and then this: "people want the company to be the company it was 30 years or more ago - that company doesn’t exist anymore and probably wouldn’t even survive in today’s marketplace."

Taking ownership! Haha. Easy to say, in retrospect if you got lucky it was your own merit. This nonsense is the central myth of modern business ideology. It's just a myth to blame the victim for being victimized. No one expects the company not to change but those who in good faith took the nano degrees and followed the rules set out were taken for chumps and dumped. It never fails to amaze me how many people fall for this narrative.

No, trash AT&T to the media so it goes public and management will alter, not stop, their trajectory on these negative employee moves. General society is sensitive to a company making people's lives worse during covid. Contact national media - I saw it work when someone anonymously was interviewed on Tucker Carlson's show and AT&T paused and re-directed because government and the public including customers saw us cutting jobs, forcing them to train India employees

Bash them all you want. They treat folks like a busted tool and you'd be in the dumpster were it up to them. They have zero loyalty. You don't "matter"
You are nothing but an expense they haven't figured how to get rid of yet.
Stop caring. They don't.
You can't make a difference.
Try to run them out of $$$.
Say "Yes sir" a lot and then do what you want.
Move the truck every 20 minutes.
You folks will drive yourselves batshlt crazy trying to change anything.
Smile, wave, and cash the checks.
Or, keep crying in the pillow at night.

My comment that I feel embarrassed to tell people I work for AT&T is because the general public hates them as much was we do. People immediately want to go into a rant about how bad they are (rightfully so), and all you can do is agree with them.

"Why can't we trash AT&T"

reading comprehension problem?
the poster said there is no point to it, not that you cant.

what gets accomplished by the post after post of the same nonsense?
"Hey did you know our attempt to buy tmobile was a bad idea?"
wow no, you're the first to say that in the past 5 years.
Good thing you said so cause somehow the caustic cynicism and hatred has made my life better.

the site is best when it discloses benefits cuts and layoffs that the company otherwise tries to keep secret.

"If you’re within 10 years of retirement, ride it out and hope for the best"

Why? Look, full disclosure I am there now. Got the notice that I can no longer count on the healthcare subsidy unless I retire next year. Not sure what I'll do personally yet, still very much up in the air.

That said, I fail to see why someone 10 years away from MR75 should "ride it out". For what exactly? There are no incentives to get to that point anymore. Unless there's a complete removal of current leadership, I fail to see any benefit to staying here. Toxic environment where the top guy's Holiday Greeting is basically telling his employees to hit the bricks if they don't like it here. Why would anyone stick around for that?

Yet AT&T will be one of the best companies to work for....and other flimsy awards year after year. Best place to work for woman...minorities....families...maybe because they aren’t trashed ?

With the $4 billion lost on the T mobile deal and the $30 billion lost on the Direct TV deal, Stephenson and Stankey will pocket well over $500 million when their careers are over!!

I for one I want trash the company even though I got laid off recently. Did they do bad decisions? Absolutely! But I also think they got some right. It is easy to be a Monday quarterback. Nobody forced me to be there, and probably didn't leave before because I got too comfortable on my job and didn't want to give up my vacation. I really hope the company does better going forward.

I don’t even like to tell people who I work for because it’s an embarrassment.

Sud'dup. You know no one cares about where you work. As long as they pay you no one is critiquing your employment. As if they think you own the company and make all the decisions.

To 5th reply. As someone who switched industries and took control of their career and learned new skills and technology I have to tell you...

You sound like a motivational speaker who tells everyone to grab their b____s and take control everything that happens is on them and their mindset.

If it was that simple we would all be perpetually employee's for high pay until we were 75.

Talk is cheap, these people are hurt. Let them vent. I was at a world class organization and we all learned cloud computing and got certified in cloud computing technologies and guess what. Two years later we all got outsourced / offshored anyways.

Didn’t matter if we rubbed elbows with the C levels for years or “took control” as you say.

And the “keepers” who stayed on. They got laid off and outsourced 10 months after us. But I’m sure it was all in their control and all their fault.

I can tell you I was the G__ D___n guy who took control and came out on top but honestly it was scary and I got lucky.

Those who just got let go, they are getting let go into a terrible job market. You make it sound like any able body human with the right attitude and work ethic will get hired tomorrow.

I’m sure the day you let you go and someone says “well didn’t ya see this coming” your going to know what it’s like. You can be the toast of the place, and 6 months later your toast!

We have completely inexperienced 1st levels now who think their only job is to hand out punishment. Zero team work , don't give a flying duck about their work force or the plant. They check for cones, ask canned safety questions that they just boned up on. Write us up. No bonding , no team chemistry . It is awful. And the 2nd levels just dont care ! No one cares !!! The union is useless and only concerned about their extra pay and time off from doing any real work. It was never like this before Randall !

In case you hadn’t noticed it...this is where people come to b–ch about where they work or used to work. It’s good therapy for them. The workplace isn’t like times past where you could stay with one company your whole career so there’s a lot of people who aren’t happy about that. Changing companies and taking ownership of your career comes down to you and no one else. If you have to change jobs or industries to survive...do it. Unfortunately that’s too much work for a lot of people and they feel like they’re owed something. When that happens there needs to be blame. Outsourcing, inept management, etc, as opposed to a maturing industry, technology impacts, globalization, etc. people want the company to be the company it was 30 years or more ago - that company doesn’t exist anymore and probably wouldn’t even survive in today’s marketplace.

I will hate this company until the day I die. I don’t even like to tell people who I work for because it’s an embarrassment. I will ride it out and milk this company for every penny I can, but it honestly feels like I’ve sold my soul to the devil working for them.

ATT also outsources American jobs overseas making those losing their jobs train them.

Why can't we trash AT&T? Let the public know just what kind of a company this is. Let the word out how AT&T treats its workers, rips off its customers, acquires and destroys good businesses with its horribly arrogant, incompetent management,

This company's actions don't need to be kept secret.
