I wonder if they will cut the combined leadership by 20 - 25% just like they will the workforce. Just kidding, we all know that won’t happen. This is more of a do as we say mgmt team and not so much leading by example. I’m sure we see new VPs and promotions. My bet is they will split VP roles up to justify more of them, and this trend will go through the company so that mgmt can save themselves. It will be like that last round of layoffs where we ended up with half the staff and double the VPs.

Double dare you Alex, try leading by example and give us a real lean leadership team. Make a commitment to your staff that leadership managers and above at each level will take the same cuts as the staff.

Otherwise you’re just like Brian F and his gong show. But I’m sure we will have a SVP, VP, Director, Manager, and a Group Lead, maybe throw in a Senior Manager as well. The entire tone at the start of this company will come down to how they handle this side of things. If we have bloated mgmt that tells you everything, we will not be a lean low cost operator, more of a country club for highly paid executives.

Oh that’s right it’s absolutely normal for management to keep employees guessing if they have a job for the next 6 months wondering when or if they will be laid off. That builds a great working relationship. Meanwhile they sit there and wait for their $30M in retention bonuses.

But yes sorry for my questioning our management’s ethics. Especially when they lied about no retention bonuses and got caught and quietly changed the FAQ on INC. Laying off 2,000 employees into the worst job market ever while rewarding themselves to the tune of $500K plus.

And I’m a troll. Whatever.

Healthy working environment will come when trolls like you do not work there anymore

Layoffs start at the end of January and then are staggered throughout the year as the merger progresses. This is great news. By doing it this way management gets to keep employees guessing about their future for about six months. That’s a healthy working environment for you.

@1uqe+18yQbGZv 40 million unemployed in Canada! Whoa things must be really rough when more than the entire population of Canada are unemployed in Canada! Hope you also enjoyed the 400 feet of snow we got just recently lol. But in the meantime with your $40 million personal retention bonus you can try to save some jobs

Non of this all really matters. With our old buddy Justin raising the carbon tax through the roof, it will be doubtful that many new projects will be economic.

Get a life people. So much negativity here. Its christmas. Go spend time with your family and have some fun.

Work hard and you won’t have to worry about layoffs. If you get laid off and you are good at what you do you will land somewhere. If you do not you didn’t deserve a job.

The true costs of layoffs from global news: Leduc resident Kenneth Rodgers found out he was laid off just three days before Christmas — meaning he lost the benefits coverage that paid for his daughter’s chemotherapy infusions. He said the representative gave him news he never saw coming, telling him his employer terminated his benefits on Dec. 18th — the same day his Christmas vacation started.

This is what the costs of layoffs are as you give $30M in retention bonuses to select management.

Good thing it's only happening at Cenovus, and those 40 MILLION UNEMPLOYED were all Cenovus employees I guess.

The one thing the goldfish at every company have in common is they think their goldfish bowl is the only one full of s..h...!..t

It's been a continual downhill slide since the old EnCana days. Oil side had huge potential but RandyE squandered that opportunity.
