I’m in my early 20s and have been with T less than a year. I don’t see myself staying long term, but I was wondering what time frame I should be looking at before moving on? I also want to grow my skill set and build a network. Should I give it 3 years? 5 years? At the rate the company is going I’m not sure I’ll even last that long, but I’m young enough that I want to start a career and having a strong resume w/experience will get me in the right direction to start.

Save your money so if you get laid off since lots of companies are moving jjobs overseas, you'll have several months to find another job. To have a job for 3-5 years with the same company in USA is a luxury these days. Keep your resume up to date, and start applying for jobs now so you get experience with interview practice and know what type of experience outside companies are looking for. Then at ATT, get those skills/knowledge so you're all set when you get laid-off. Also, since you're young, you probably never got laid-off, and it can be a shock. So calm down, organize yourself, and since you've been continuously looking for another job while at ATT, you should have no problem finding another job.
If you are related to someone or are an extreme azzkiss you will do well my friend. Otherwise look elsewhere. I have seen worthless people survive surpluses, one because she was married to a third level. I was in a meeting in which the forth level said she pairs down the resume to recommended candidates. Ummm can you interview my son ? Don’t hang in as you will see how poorly run this company is at every level of management.
@1txo+18y1DVnv what that person said - use att to get a masters and have them pay for it and leave. there is not future at cesspool att. if you don't want to do that leave immediately. nothing att will help get experience because the company is so backward they love putting round pegs in square holes and then call themselves innovative. look now while you are employed and you can be picky on where you go. there really is no reason to stay at nwo cesspool att.
Please don't assume you have any kind of future here. You don't. I don't care how high a GPA you had, what your skill level is, how much sunshine they blew up your backside while recruiting you, how many degrees you have, etc. Read and comprehend what is being said on these posts. This company is sinking fast and throwing people away like yesterday's trash. T treats their employees like sh*t and does not care about you. Get out while you can and find a good company with a good reputation that treats its employees like human beings worth growing and you will thank yourself.
Gen X’er here, 3-5 years stay is a bit outdated school of thought. If you are at a job that is part of your development path, stay. If not, look to move as quickly as you can, and make no apologies for it.
I'd head for zee hills young man. You've got a lot more flexibility at that age. Don't know what your job is, but if you're in wireless/mobility almost any of the other carriers would be better. Dish network hiring like crazy, building a new Mobility network from the ground up.
I retired from ATT over 2 years ago but I was always worried about being laid off. I made it to retirement but retirement collecting a pension from T are gone for younger people like yourself. Get out of a dead end job while you are young and that you will always be stressed about loosing. Just keep working for T but apply for a Federal job. Federal jobs you will make a good salary, benefits, retirement and have strong job security so you can sleep at night without being worried about being on a layoff list like ATT does 2 to 4 times a year. Do a google search "Federal Jobs" the official site is www.usa.gov/government-jobs. I personally like Air traffic Controller but you can only apply for it only before you reach the age of 27 years old, having a clean background check and passing the ATSA test which is not easy, but by buying a ATSA study book on how to pass the test it will take a lot of studying on you part but it is will be worth it. I like this job because of the starting pay and extra benefits over other federal jobs.
Don’t get comfortable. Your 1 year will turn into 10 quick if they even keep you for that long
Follow that recommendation! 21 years off payroll 1X, forced out of other titles 3X, at the bottom within 9 exchanges!

There is no future in T with current mismanagement. Start looking immediately and when you find something at better managed company - LEAVE and don't look back!
