Salary range comparison

How would you compare the salary range of managers and engineers?

Is technical/IT managers salary range equivalent to a lead engineers salary. Same with senior manager and a principal engineer salary range?

Band 4 is way too broad to me. It’s very difficult to guess the salary range for band 4.

Extortion seemed to work for me, if you have what they need they will pay. VPs get p-ss-d that underlings make thousands more than they do.

Honeywell seems to opperate seat of the pants, whatever seems good right at that moment - salaries, jobs, the work you do. The leaders don't seem to understand processes so they encourage folks to think outside the box and pull rabbits out of hats - hit the home run. Usually to make revs. Processes and procedure don't seem to matter much any more. SHow me the $. Make a personnel change to get someone in there that will make that number. Working from crisis to crisis.

One caveat to @irjb comment – changing jobs frequently does help.
There are severe limits on salary increases allowed .. even if you jump to a new job.
During my career I left honeywell after about 5 years and then returned about 10 years ago.
Since then I have been able to consistently advance by applying for a new position every 12 months.
MANY of my managers told me that wasn't possible and actively discouraged me from applying.
Truth seems to be that "HR Policies" vanish the moment an executive makes a phone call.
This seems to be even more true now.
To be successful at this you must be willing to take jobs in a wide variety of departments and fields. Consider manager positions, CEL positions, and other customer focused areas. The closer to the customer the more stress and the more opportunity for reward.

Regarding salary ranges – the ranges are so wide that they are essentially meaningless.

As an ex manager in aero, I will assure you that there is no correlation in salary and position. A manager's principal/staff engineers can make 80k more than the technical manager. The only correlation to pay is how long has an employee been around. Which is correlated to how entrenched they are in the boys club. No matter how hard you work, if you hired in mid career, you will never catch up.
