Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

How we connect

By betraying anyone that has worked for AT&T for more than 20 years by taking away PTO ( a little painful) and retirement benefits ( very painful).

That’s candor, and the truth. New or prospective employees be warned.

@1wrx+18rxAwv0. “Typical Boomer” Screw the young? You mean employees who have not worked much to earn a benefit they weren’t promised? The arrogance and lack of insight of your statement is embarrassing. The funny thing about youth is that it fades quickly. Ask your parents, Sc-appy. This matters to you as well.

Any body who has been craft for a long time....saw the handwriting on the wall for management. I get it, some were hired as managers...but most of us passed up management for that reason. Now they have reached all time lows in there treatment of management. Feel sorry for those who are now getting screwed over.

"Keep in mind, there is nothing preventing the company from eliminating that health care subsidy even AFTER you have retired. So I would not rush to retire in 2021 just for that. "
As someone pointed out to me the $2,700 is less than a months wage which someone could earn by continuing to work. The trends seems to indicate that this will go away. The persons responsible for the financial mess are not the ones who are going to be suffering. They are taking away benefits which you would have gotten. I don't see upper management taking a paycut. cutting their benefits or cleaning out unnecessary levels of management.

"Phasing a benefit out for new employees is one thing, taking it from employees who have earned it through years of service is another. Another scummy move by AT&T, but why am I even surprised anymore?"

Glad I took the 50g plus sipp in July.
Subsidized healthcare and also found another job that has benefits if needed. Still waiting on replacement retirement gift. No worry. Moved my 401k to rollover, taking pension in January. DirecTv went up but like it anyway. Good Luck!

I think that’s right - that those of us that stay will be fired in 2022, so it basically comes down to is your 6 months severance more or less than the value of the medical subsidy x yrs until 65. For me, I’m better off with the severance.

What I and very afraid of is that they reduce severance to, let’s say 3 months, and do it after Jan 2022. I wouldn’t put it past our executive leadership.

The reneging on the promise for pre Medicare subsidy is just diabolical, and huge. I do understand this doesn't impact everyone, but it does impact many, including me. The fact that I was eligible for that subsidy as a retiree, (which after 26 years we know will be happening one way or another in the next year or 2) was a huge part of retirement planning. So many will be in their early- mid 50's, "retired", with their promised coverage having been stripped from them...trying to find a way to get through that decade plus to Medicare. Here's another prediction...those that choose to not retire next year and choose to stay will be laid off so fast in 2022 it will make your head spin. They won't do it in 2021 (to the folks that they'd still be on the hook for subsidized healthcare anyway). As soon as the ball drops on 2022—Buh Bye.

And you employees that are leaving groveling, a$$ kissing little comment notes underneath Leadership's ridiculously upbeat Holiday "thanks" videos are really, really pathetic. Here's a hint, They don't read them. They don't care about you. They're coming for your benefits next. Stop being a rube.

I have nothing but hate for this company. I’m pretty sure the general public feels the same way.

yep removing benefits not a good sign of a company that has major profitability and huge cash flow.

but I am sure senior management will spin someway that makes it sound legit.
