Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Anyone else losing drive?

I find myself having a hard time being positive about any work with these layoffs coming. Every time I see a post I just think, wow Al is smiling and telling us what a great safety job that we all did but we are still going to lay a whole bunch of you off while I take another $600k. I guess I would be smiling too. I hate having a bad attitude, it’s not who I am, but it’s so hard getting over the chance of being laid off in this brutal job market where we have no chance of finding another job. Think about that. No one and I mean no one is hiring and for how long will that last. If you’re in HR or communication you’re 50:50 that you are done. No one needs two full support teams like these. Same with govt relations or supply chain, only need one of those.

No one in mgmt has the guts to address this issue. That they are laying people off at the worst time in a generation and they just don’t care. They can talk fairness and respect but it doesn’t translate to anything real when they take all this extra money while destroying peoples lives.

Wallowing in your own self pity isn’t going to help your situation. It will just depress you more. The entire country is in the same position. And will only get worse .... thanks in large part to the feds … probably because the likes of you voted LPC.

@1gpd+18pPWcXJ, don't save too much money. Our federal finance minister is looking for ways to unlock that "precharged stimulus", preferably on a voluntary basis.

Ugh I feel absolutely tired and have no drive at all to do anything. The year itself has caught up to me like the layoffs haven’t even sunk in yet

I’m glad I’m not the only one feeling like this. I’ve been sleeping a lot and I think that’s depression or anxiety. I’m not even worried about getting laid off because I save a lot of money, I’ll be fine for years if I get let go. I’m just sick of what we get put through year over year. And I’m sick of not being able to use my talent and skills well because some clueless mo–n is right above me.
What a joke the $600k retention bonuses are. In a year like 2020 our middle class taxes are about to go up, there are no jobs out there, so much inflation, but yeah let’s keep all 100 VPs because even though we get paid millions to make tough decisions we can’t actually make decisions so let’s instead get rid of people we don’t actually have to look in the eye or don’t actually know.
I’m glad we’re all working at home...... someone texted me the other day to say because he’s neighbors with his VP he got told in good confidence his job is safe. Well folks I’m not neighbors with any VPs nor do I hang out in Hawaii with AP or play golf with HC......... so yeah........

Yes. This now just life. Getting screwed over by management should be expected. They find ways to line their pockets while not giving any care for employees. Fair and respectful that’s a load of $hit. $30M in retention bonuses. Keeping all those extra SVPs on instead of letting their massive salary’s go. That would have shown leadership. They want integration savings they should have made a commitment that all upper mgmt would be reduced by the same percentage as employees. But no, we will keep them I am sure and what they will do is split senior roles like Environment and Safety back into separate roles to justify two VPs instead of one. That will happen across the company instead of merging VP roles they will try to keep as many of them as possible. They will split HR functions up to justify two VPs and on and and on. I also bet that you will see promotions out of this for various Directors to new VPs. Just watch.

This is just life guys. If the government had stepped up and supported the industry better, things wouldn't be as desperate as they are but seeing as they didn't, there will be more consolidation coming. Its easy to blame everyone and point fingers but the reality is, there just isn't a need for 2 of everything in the head office. Even I get that. I am of the view that this country is heading downhill fast and we have been too stupid to see it coming. I suggest you focus your efforts on getting another job if you hate it here so much. Moaning on here doesn't help anyone and makes you look bitter and twisted. If you want perks of a leader, go get a leadership job but quit complaining.

Here is a ray of sunshine, get use to it. Open your eyes. CVE is just a microcosm of what is happening all around us. Political leaders and the ultra wealthy are trying to manipulate the population for their own purposes. It's always been there, just getting worse. Maybe we are reaching a peak of non-caring and self-centered greed on the western civilization roller coaster. Now just wait for the drop to come, it will be one heck of a ride!
