Lying is in the DNA of this company. There's a direct relationship between the speed with which an individual rises in the organization and the lies they have told. In fact, it's become a "best practice" for personal career growth.

Also, the lying is not limited to grandiose promises. Sandbagging is also a lie. Representing other people's work as your own is a lie. Scapegoating is a lie. Objective performance evaluations are a lie. Shale plays are a lie. ESG is a lie. Anything on a manager's PowerPoint is a lie. SPIRIT values are a lie. "This is the final layoff" is a lie.

Exploration has been the biggest “bubble liar” over the years. I won’t list the plays but we all recognize them: an insane value that collapses after the first well or two. But there have been selected BU’s that have done the same with lies about “future reserve bookings”, to say nothing of “resources”. If you go back (not too far) you can still find analysts presentations where we brag about 50-60B barrels in “future resources” for our company.

What will happen to Exploration management if they have nobody left to manage? Will fake positions be created just for them so they can continue spreading their infinite wisdom and extensive oil-finding acumen throughout the land?

Not bubble=exploration group that has wiffed repeatedly on new plays and is now finally going to get their share of the guttings the bubbles, I mean BU'S, have seen over the last five years.

Let’s take a walk down memory lane. 2017 was a big year for layOffs. I am still at COP and wonder how you could forget the disposition of San Juan. We eliminated a business unit. We sold huge interests in Canada. Perhaps that doesn’t matter to you and you feel safe because you’re in a bubble like Eagle Fart. Your time is coming. Your new leader insists on seeing the numbers and playing number games will become nearly impossible. The smoke and mirrors games of the past will not be tolerated and your true profitability will finally be known.

I never heard of an EOI opportunity in 2017. That was the year Harvey postponed the surprise layoffs that eventually occurred in 2018. WTI was over $70/bbl and climbing at the time.

BTW, posting here three years later? You are definitely looking back.

If you were an employee, you would know the terms!

It’s the same if you get laid off or EOI. Just like previous times. And just like it’ll be in the future. Again and again and again. Until only RL and his all singing, all dancing ELT are left.
