Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

At what point do we hold the CWA accountable for all CORE jobs going temp?

CWA has at least 30 Electronic Technician jobs on the att external job board. I have 8+ years, passes TKT 2 and everything else, and I can’t even get promoted to a Wire Tech position because of no internal openings. This company s—s bro

You really need to know someone in management, need a hook to get promoted! This company is way too large and only looks after those that come from a long line of relatives that used to work for T, otherwise, you're on your own! Smaller companies are a much better fit!

Those are permanent positions not temps and if they are not filled internally then they post externally. There is nothing really that the union can do as they have already dumbed down the exams too much already that most internal techs still cant pass them. Most of these jobs are in large CO’s where they are too low on tech’s and work is back logged. Unless you have at least an AAS in engineering tech or IT and are a self learner then you probably wont be well suited for the job anyway.

Fyi, nashville main was pretty much brought back online in 2 days not 4.

I talked to my supervisor today about this. He said that human resources screwed up and that the job for Gainesville is really in Panama City. These temporary ET jobs are for consolidation projects. They have several pieces of equipment that are not using their full bandwidth. They move circuits from one to another. The ones with no circuits after that are shutdown and turned off. Ideally they are looking for persons with CO experience. They are asking some recent retirees if they want to come back temporarily.

CWA doesn't care about their members all they care is about them. They are just there to take you're money and to make sure employee are under control.
F*** CWA

"They are probably a little busy at the moment to hold your hand. I guess you failed their first test in the application process: "Can you read?" "
The job was posted a month ago. I don't have the job id. I guess I could file a grievance, and have them roll everything back on the article 12. If I wait longer, then it will be even harder to undo. I was trying to make it easier for them. Do you know how to spell g-r-i-e-v-a-n-c-e?

Bruh, there are currently 3000 jobs listed on the external site. They are probably a little busy at the moment to hold your hand. I guess you failed their first test in the application process: "Can you read?"

I did not believe that the ET jobs were listed externally. But I checked and yes there are some there, but they are not part time. One of them was under my supervisor, and I did not even know about it.
Human resources is terrible. I contacted them about the status of a job listing, and they wanted me to give them the job id. As if they could not look it up otherwise. I never heard back from them. The contract is complicated as it is and to administer. But this person could not or would not take the time to look up that job listing.

Wire Tech is an entry level installer job, Electronic Tech is a more skilled position. The OP doesn’t appear to be in either position but is saying that he/she is qualified for the most skilled, ET.

Is "Electronic Technician" the same as "Wire Tech"? Why not seek employment as "Electronic Technician" if that is the position you seek? OP's post is like saying, they're hiring Account Representatives, so why can't I get a job as janitor?

When that nut job blew up the Nashville office, there would have been no freaking way a bunch of temps could have restored the network in 4 days! That was amazing! They created a CO in a bunch truck trailers outside the building. If T would have only had temps during that, they would have been so screwed! They need to value the ones who fixed that mess!

During the most recent contract for Core and UFO in the SE, the union members held strong together (nearly 100%) on an unfair labor strike when the company stopped negotiating. The company brought in new negotiators fast from Dallas, all of our local managers where glad and appreciated when we came back.

Nearly all of the managers expressed how difficult, dangerous and skillful the outside tech jobs are to do. 95% of them were c-apping in their pants that they were about to have to try and fill the gap. The company had quit the physical outside training due to too many injuries. The managers were mad at the company for letting it get to that point.

“ Low pay no benefits temp workers who know nothing and jack up all they touch....,guess what you get what you pay for T.....lol”

But they are high paying full benny term jobs after 6-12 months if you actually did any research. They just don’t want internal transfers and they want to reserve the right to cut you loose if it doesn’t work out or the work isn’t there. Makes sense to me.

I have heard that there are techs with well over 40 years of service and one even 70 years old! There’s no way the company is going to offer these techs a package because their logic is that they’ll eventually retire on their own at some very near point in time. AND, T still needs techs so if these people are waiting around for some kind of package, it’s not gonna happen!

Wa wa wa... Why isn't the union protecting me? .... I've been paying union dues since I was 17.... Where's my union support.... The union said I don't have to work hard and they can't touch me..... LOL stop drinking the koolaid . The company is tired of overpaid unproductive union workers and know a union strike won't happen

The company doesn't want long term employees any longer. At least, that's what they think they want. They don't want to deal with Unions any longer. They don't want to deal with 401k matching, pensions and all the costs . . . er . . . my bad . . . BENEFITS that full time employees have. They believe they want a world where the average employee is only here for a few years before moving on. What they have no clue about is how long it takes to become proficient in many of the positions they believe they can fill with temp employees and zero training. They'll learn it eventually and it will be a painful lesson for sure. When they force everyone with the expertise / knowledge of their networks out the door, they'll get a good dose of reality when there isn't anyone left who knows how to do the work yet the need to maintain that network is still alive and well. Next few years will give them that reality check. I just hope we survive as a company long enough for them to learn that lesson.

You always hold them accountable. Everything that happens, the U allows. Disagree with me then you’re admitting that the U doesn’t wield the power it claims to have.

You have to go with outside hires when the only way to get rid of a garbage union tech is to tell them "Hey, Cletus, check out the internal ATT National Transfer site. Some great jobs on there, my dude! I'll put in a good word for ya!"

The fun part about reading these post is jokers like "Hiring Manager" if in fact is a "manager" it is not the Union but the company taking away your retirement benifits. Get gone before 12/31/2022 boy.

Anyone who knows anything knows that is referring to AR, so ya, the writing is on the wall.

You don’t have to pay dues to be treated like c-ap. You get the same lack of representation without carrying the card.
