Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

They actually want to hasten our downfall?

It doesn’t seem to me like they want to save this company. Moreover, they seem to want to hasten the downfall of what is left of this company.
It was only after I entered another store as a customer, that I saw all the misery. The girl who works there barely managed to find the book on the shelf. I don’t blame her, but the one who hired her. Such people did not work here while there was still some vision.

All retail employees are expendable.
Get a job at a fast food place.
They’re essential.
BN will close again if things shut down.
The fast food place is where everyone will go to eat.

Amen !
Booksellers are useless.
BN knows it .
That’s why they got rid of the career Booksellers and hired kids off the street and pay them what they’re worth- minimum wage.

Amazon utterly dominates the book market without a single bookseller. Bookseller knowledge can't remotely compete with the power of Google, which didn't even exist until 1998. Before then, people needed other people to find books in any genre, but now Amazon has a recommendation system of millions of books to tell you what other people with your interests are buying. Human booksellers are as obsolete as sales commission electronics salesmen at Circuit City.

All they want is minimum wage bodies to man the floor. They think the books will sell themselves. Not thinking they have to go on the correct shelves. Not thinking they have to be alphabetized (we have THREE people in my store that can NOT spell !!!!!) a lot of us can’t find books that should be on the shelves, in the right place.
