If you were successful in finding another job, please help us!

I was laid off at Aero in Phoenix, AZ in June. I have a Bachelors in Mechanical Eng'g and a Masters in Operations Research, in addition to 25+ years of work experience worldwide... I can write code, manage projects, and I am NOT an industrial actor! Please post where I can apply for jobs. Thanks.

Try medical devices; Stryker, Dexcom, West Pharma, Medtronic, BD(Bard). We all wish there was more in AZ at this time. There is also Lucid Motors, Viasat, and Axon.

How many positions have you applied for and how many interviews landed?
Arizona is heavily saturated with ME's looking for work due to layoffs and Cali transplants. Employers can find applicants with the exact background they are looking for.
I have had very few interviews for positions applied to in the valley or Tucson over the last 6 months. The last employer I interviewed with said they had over 120 applicants for a position that required a mechanical engineering degree along with some very detailed additional experience.
I applied for only 4 positions outside of AZ and received interviews for 2 of them. One gave me an offer that didn't make financial sense for me to take (located in SoCal and I would need to commute due to my wife's work) and I have the initial interview for the second tomorrow.
If you are in a hurry and want to improve your chances greatly, you will need to expand your search outside of this state.

For the poster who mentioned contracting are there companies that specialize in that? That really sounds good for my situation.

Definitely use linkedIn bit be sure to update your profile and resume to the latest format. Things are done a lot different then they were several years ago and not matter how good you are you will not get noticed if the format is not correct. Recruiters and talent acquisition managers have gotten very lazy and use screening software called ATS (applicant tracking system) that screens for keywords. If they are not found your resume goes into a black hole and is never seen again. Do your research so you can beat this system.

If you have a Linkedin account post your resume on the site and let people know you are looking for a job. A lot of recruiters use that site. Also great for networking

Honeywell phx has new postings right now.

But my guess is that you are not willing to move. This means that you likely know all the employers in the area. In the end, there are jobs if you are willing to move

Also try usajobs.gov
There may be jobs at the airforce base.

Raytheon, lockheed, spacex, Tesla, are all hiring.
I jumped to Raytheon in Florida.
Relocation is probably required.

I see Lockheed posted jobs for MEs as recently as 1/7/2021.

Contracting is extremely hot right now. Lot of people backfilling layoffs with contractors.

Don’t be discouraged. You have tremendous skills.

Good luck!
