Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Do they have a long-term strategy at all?

Voluntary layofffs / packages is the dumbest thing a company could do. Great for those that go voluntarily (usually the smartest and brightest), but what is left are not the smartest or brightest and would not be able to find a job anywhere else.

An interesting angle, @1nbu+18Kqf4EA. It's a pity that the leaders of the company do not see it this way. Paradoxically, due to short-term gains, they neglect the irreparable loss in human capital. For a better future, good management should be putting more efforts at the long run.

Not much of a strategy, never has been one. Lotsd of cool catch phrases though. As far as the human "resource" goes, the HR folks really don't know what anybody does; all engineers are considered fungible (i.e. and electrical engineer can do a chemical engineers job, and visa versa). Also easy to find good people because everybody wants to work at the best company in the world, which is CVE... right? New grads are easy to dupe into working at CVE, they generally don't know any better and have not had years to become cynical and bitter oil company workers, getting $crewed over by the leadership.

Mrs. Brutal Bangs....... that made me laugh a lot, thanks for humour in such a horrible time! She must not have any friends, because surely someone would say something to a real friend, like what are you thinking?

This round layoffs will once again destroy moral among cenovus employees. And the threat of ongoing layoffs will keep it at the bottom of the barrel. Mrs brutal bangs is a dense HR lead if she doesn’t see that. Dear god why won’t someone help her with the hair thing? It’s distracting. Everyone’s moral will be at zero to the end of the month with this axe hanging over us. It’s not if you’re good at your job or not or anything to do with talent. It’s all about that dollar number in cuts they promised to meet. The talent review is a useless exercise to put one over the employees. They will cut and cut until that number is hit regardless of skill or dedication.
