Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Desperately looking

I’ve been out of work for a few months and in my area jobs are difficult to come by, even if you have skills that could be used outside of the industry. I’ve gone so far as to fill out applications where the travel time would be 2 or more hours round trip. Thankfully my wife has a stable career but I’m at my wits end. How long did it take any of you to find employment?

Don’t confuse feverishly watching internet job boards and submitting your credentials to open job posts with a productive job search. You are doubtful going to find a job by sitting on your laptop all day. Every job posting you blindly respond to likely has received hundreds of responses. And the advantage is always going to go to those applicants who forge connections, tap into direct and indirect contacts in the industry, etc.

You need to network, network, network. Get out of your comfort zone and get busy.

I was RIFed in June 2020, Just got an offer yesterday but will required relocation to another city 5 hours away from where I am now. Am going to accept the offer.

Stay positive and keep trying. I had quite a number of interviews since last July and most of them were not successful. It's a buyer's market out there with lots of competition from other job seekers. I understand the frustrations. Stay positive and keep trying.

I was RIFd in July and found something in October. It's a bit less pay but I figure easier to get a job when you have a job. The web applying became mind numbing. The only good thing was I got to double dip on Honeyhell for a few paychecks.

Keep applying it's a numbers game for sure. I just got a rejection email from something I applied to in Sept!!

It took me close to a year to land a stable dream job that paid more. Never never give up. Apply everywhere and do the interviews with everyone. I was never unemployed. I just found a better place. You'll be so glad after you leave- away from toxic, headaches

I wouldn’t go back to honey unless it was double the pay as when I got laid off. Hang in there stay positive keep looking and most importantly forget about honey.

It took me 2 months to get an interview and another 2 weeks to get a job offer. Then I waited for a security clearance. I took 2 more interviews while waiting for the clearance - jobs I really didn't care for in other cities requiring a move. It seemed defense companies were hiring in 2020. You can't be picky and expect to get exactly what you want. Willingness to relocate is also helpful.

You must be willing to move. If you are, you can typically get a job in months.
I had mine after 2 months.

Also think outside the box. Government jobs (usajobs.com) is a great source. Its hard to fill out applications but take your time and you will do fine. Note, you do NOT need to be a professional engineer on usajovs if you have 10 years of experience or a graduate degree.

It took me about 5 months to find a new job (higher pay and I like it a lot better). A headhunter told me it takes roughly a week more for every year of experience if you want an equivalent job (which is about what happened with me).

I was RIFed back in April 2020 and I'm still looking. Had to put a pause on the mortgage payments. The labor market is getting stronger and that gives me hope that I will find employment this year.

Try to stay as positive as you can. I was RIFed from HW back in 2015. It took me a exactly a year and 1 month to find a job. And guess where, back at Honeywell, just different department. I submitted countless application, within and outside of my field. I went through multiple interviews and on and on.... I even stated during a few that I am not looking for the same compensation and etc... I just wanted a job. But here I am back at Honeywell.... On my resume, I worked for big companies, so every time its the same thing, I am considered too expensive. But in reality, I just wanted to keep the house and keep paying the bills. But hey, my story might be an outlier, I know people that found jobs within weeks.

Best of luck!!!
