Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Will I ever find a new job now that I am over 50?

I've lost all hope that it will be in the field of insurance, although that's where I would like it to be. It’s hard to learn new skills at this age, but chances are that I’ll have to. Is there anyone my age here who's found a similar job very quickly after being laid off? It would comfort me somewhat simply to know that it is possible.

If you are over 50 it will be difficult but you can do it, unfortunately many companies discriminate to those over 50 and they can get away with it as how will you prove it. I have a few friends at 2 large companies that are not insurance related, every time internal jobs come open they are filled with younger employees, even though the ones that are older have better numbers and yearly reviews.

I just turned 50 and I'm having a really hard time finding anything. This is a totally different kind of stress... thanks for nothing, Allstate.

Laid off in 2016 and out of work 19 months. I turned down a few jobs because of the salary and still would up with a large pay cut. Applying fir jobs online hit me nowhere. Networking was the key for me. Not as easy during a Pandemic but join local networking groups. Hey active on LinkedIn. If you are in Illinois, check out WIOA training programs. Try to keep your spirits up. Even on the worst days, remember you are better than Allhate. You got this!

34 yrs with allstate when they shut down the roseville ca office...was in bi dept at time...took 6 months to find another ins job–also had to switch to property side..very stressful to be looking when you are almost 60–you know they can do the math and figure your age...but with perseverance and patience it can be done..

The worst company to work for. Over 30 years working for this toilet of a company. Zero ethics which will not go unpunished.

Took me a year of age discrimination pc interviews and c-appy offers. That was 4 year’s ago after a predominately 50+ Employee purge to boost the sinking company stock. Transitioning wasn’t without it’s risk’s . Was tough. Totally worth it.

former Allstate 24 yrs, outside auto field and drive in, left a few months ago ended up in a collision repair shop. less hours, less stress, less pay, no benefits. early 60's need to work a few more years before am able to retire for good. Never felt better, its hard to describe to relief not working for Allstate.
