More thoughts on Diversity

Another Webcast today on diversity, hiring and promotion. On one hand, the goal is to get to a race/gender distribution pie chart inline with the country and STEM workforce. On other hand, promises about not filling a quota and hiring the best candidate for the job. And... how to do look at the metric for hiring the best candidate for the job... a big fat zero. Driving to a certain pie distribution IS filling a quota without guardrails.

This company really s—s at measuring what matters.

Let's just say that we get to the right pie chart, we would still be stuck with a bunch id–ts in management. And id–ts will keep promoting id–ts.

Of course, they will never tell you why you were NOT hired/promoted. That for sure would cause the lawsuits. But they WILL hire/promote the bobble-heading monkeys that will not question nor complain, nor bring any real skills to the table, because real skills are too expensive.
Personalities and quotas do not translate into actual, hard results.
Another addition to the failed strategies graveyard.

They're opening themselves up to serious litigation. Mentioning hiring more people of x race is automatically breaking the law if that's how they're hiring people. Doesn't matter what x is.
