Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

No one at AT&T checked with Roku, or Fire TV before deploying HBOMAX......Why?

HBOMAX project inexperience caused to "Failing to plan syndrom" exposed the project to unpredictable high risks and problems according to ingternal emails. Now they are trying to figure out how to solve the "HBOMAX problem" Access from direct competitors.

I'm sure it was planned. The best experience using ATT TV is when you have the ATT TV set top box and remote. BTW, Roku does have ATT TV app now and I've used both side by side, also have used it on a Samsung smart tv. With the AT&T tv set top box you get a cable/satellite tv like experience (I like it). Using Roku or Samsung smart tv is not a good experience and probably the reason for the bad reviews out their.

Pretty clear they want you to have a premium experience.

No BS, just honest feedback.

This is about share of ad revenue. Amazon on particular wants the lion’s share to carry HBO Max. Roku also wants a huge chunk. The bottom line is if HBO Max (meaning AT&T) is willing to ace in order to broaden who can see the product. I don’t love AT&T, but Amazon is the bully here. Roku is just caught up in the middle.

The only IT plan I have seen at AT&T is "hurry up and push that c-ap out the door" while singing the praises of "partner vendors" that gouged us in delivering it.

AT&T has always used its large network and customer base to bully smaller carriers. S—s when you are on the other side. I am sure the arrogant T is trying to bully Roku to save a few cents. And it looks like Roku is giving T the finger. About time.

Pipedream for the Osprey box to take over the hardware game, with "new" features that other devices had deployed years before. Just look at these prices, even if you were dumb enough to pay for AT&T TV, would be be dumb enough to rent boxes at $10 per month. In contrast, Comcast is giving out Flex 4k to their customers for FREE. Let's Stank sell Osprey boxes to his friends and family.

Roku 4k - $39.99
Amazon Firestick 4k - $49.99.

AT&T TV Osprey Streaming Box -

One - included with 2 year contract of programming
Two - $10/month
Three - $20 Month
Four - $30 Month

Media Industry Exec: safer assumption than any of the others - negotiations broke down between companies. There are zero people in the industry who don't know the value of these platforms, and nobody is so inept they would've expected anything but a poor reaction.

But (1) Roku has gotten greedy as they took a larger market share than expected and (2) Amazon is playing hardball with all the media companies now.

Sooner or later it'll get resolved. It'll all come down to $$$ and % allocation...

I am sure HBO Max executives thought of putting HBO Max on those devices, but were vetoed by Stankey and Randall. Those two had dreams and hopes of grandeur, of taking on Google and Amazons regarding Ad revenue. All those Harvard consultants or accenture or other consulting companies told them so. To them that was the ultimate goal. So when Roku and Amazon were not willing to give them their subscriber logon and other user information, Randall and Stankey probably said we are not deploying it on those two devices. I was on a meeting where some Harvard id–t that Donovan had invited was telling us AT&T is about to create the greatest ecosystem (buzzword).

It is so sad. I have Amazon Fire. I bought it because it is much cheaper than Apple TV. Before AT&T bought Time Warner. And I have Samsung TV that has roku. And now I can't get to HBO because AT&T took HBO GO off Amazon fire. Infuriating.

More like, "Field of Dreams". Build it and they will come. They were banking on the consumer demand for the incredible new HBO Max platform being leverage for the negotiations with Fire and Roku. What they did not expect was the product would actually be a dud and DOA. They are now caught a bit flat-footed in a Title Bout.

The Next Step

It takes a generation to accept the new “normal”. What I’m proposing in this text is radical shift in the way people approach business and consumerism.

The current crop of old farts who are controlling Corporate boardrooms is probably too old to change.

My hope is that someone who is still young in their heart and mind will read this and share these ideas with the next generation of business owners who’s mind will be natively well-Intentioned and not motivated by profits.
