Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

When will this feeling go away?

This "sick to my stomach" kind of feeling that assaults me when I even think about work, not to mention when I actually have to deal with it? And it's only gotten worse with layoffs. I really don't remember feeling like this as recently as maybe six months ago. Why is this suddenly affecting me this way? Anybody else having similar issues?

It probably won’t go away.

I encourage anyone reading this to YouTube the 3-minute Ted Talk by Simon Sinek “Why good leaders make you feel safe”. He begins with : “In the military, they give medals to people who are willing to sacrifice themselves, so that others may gain. In business, we give bonuses to people who are willing to sacrifice others, so that we may gain.”

No one should feel “safe” with Allstate. Executives here would rather sacrifice their people, to save the numbers - than sacrifice the numbers, to save their people.

I had that feeling and decided to quit early August, could not bring myself to work another day for this morally bankrupt company. I left after 24 years, they were in the process of pushing me out with performance management. My auto estimating was somehow not good enough after 24 years plus the 20 years prior collision shop experience. I was struggling with cheating customers of a fair claim settlement and lowballing shops. Glad to be out, no regrets, never felt better mentally and physically.

I expressed how I felt months ago. The feeling goes away slowly after you find out your fate. It’s still there but not as bad. If you have PTO, take it. Your health is everything more than a job. You could get internally sick worrying about something you can’t control. Apply for jobs now!! If you’re safe, you can always reject a job offer.
