AT&T has no choice but to declare bankruptcy with $180 Billion in debt. Stupid bankers lent them the money. Now those bankers are going to lose that money. Oh well, another one bites the dust.

"ATT is a cash cow with mobility and WiFi services "
ATT persists in alienating its core customer base.

Best advise when you retire: TAKE THE LUMP SUM BUYOUT AND DO NOT LOOK BACK ! Roll it into an IRA and forget about T !

As long as the balance sheet matches up, and with the amount of cash this company generates, that is a far stretch. They do still report profits, and pay divedends.

too big to fail - lol - the wireless cash cow will slowly decline nobody wants service from att so maybe like the previous poster said the government contracts will save them. but I am sure there would plenty other companies that would love the divided up assets from att for pennies on the dollar. I could see the government doing that giving to companies who want to run and manage them with the customer in mind instead of telling what the customers what they want.

T is NOT going to go bankrupt! Stop spreading false rumors or causing dissension amongst the ranks! ATT is a cash cow with mobility and WiFi services and also provides a lot of government services throughout the country...it’s not filing for chapter 11 anytime soon, so I wouldn’t worry to that extent! I’m not from HR, just a technician that’s been around this company for over 3 decades!

I used to work for a company that bankrupted. Yet, the employee morale was better the day we declared than the 15 years I worked at T.
T is already morally bankrupt. The financial bankruptcy won't be long now.
My guess is 2021. They will save the books for this year with more layoffs and claim COVID.
But next year there will be no more excuse. However, by that time, customers will have left in droves and there won't be anything good enough left to sell.
How bad will it get? How about 'Psycho'? Because the employees will be micro-managed into the ground and then blamed/fired for not 'executing' the 'plan'.

It will happen definitely happen eventually, but T's demise will be more of an agonizingly slow death spiral than a quick crash and burn.

My predictions:

  • You will see more of a slow decent into the Abyss. Look at GE.
  • The beatings will continue until moral improves, or there are only a few US employees left.
  • The stock price will continue to descend* slowly, like what happened to GE - from $60/share to $6/share.
  • The dividend will not be cut until Ratty leaves. No way he is going to cut his $1M quarterly check!
  • The dividend will not be cut until T cannot borrow any more $ to pay the dividend.
  • You will see churn in the upper echelons, as they pull their golden parachutes.
  • You will see spin offs. But the only spinoffs that will succeed are for businesses that actually have value.
  • Loss of the revenue from spun off business will accelerate the stock decline.

I don’t see happening for 5 or 10 years of it happens. Usually companies go BK after a couple yrs of losing $$. The steps that will happen first-
1) Div cut
2) Div eliminated
3) customer base shrinks in half
4) DTV, TW yard-sale
5) employee base shrinks 75%
6) T loses first net contract to Verizon
