Been a wire tech in the Southeast and the only people getting any craft promotions already have 20 years with the company moving sideways Yet I’m seeing all kinds of craft positions on the street in California! Great locations at that! It’s worth a shot, I wish I could transfer there but the CWA won’t allow it, not even in the transfer system.

I'm born and raised in Los Angeles and will bail from this cesspool in 2021. The party is over in our once great state, it's just too bad all newcomers missed the good times and no amount of wishing will bring them back.
Honestly, unless you have the skill set or desire necessary to become a manager or IC with the company (I’m assuming you do not, if you are seriously considering moving across the country to be essentially what is a lineman), I would just wait it out where you are until a craft job in the SE core contract becomes available and hope you get lucky. Make sure you are qualified on the TKTll.
if you are a wire /prem you should go anywhere to get away from that job.
Be aware that OPT positions in Cali are TERM positions. There is no job security. In two years, not only will you be laid off but you will have to support yourself in the most expensive state in the union.
CA is great place for those who want a open thinking place to live how you want with out worrying about the racist issues in other parts of the country. Costs are high because as people move out just as many are coming to CA.
My husband went from an OPT in the SE Region with 3 yr service. He applied for a job as a Prem Tech in the SW Region. HR told him and Union confirmed that when he moved regions, he would get a new NCS and would have to work 5 years as a PT before his SE seniority would bridge.
So he jumped thinking no big deal, what's 3 years.
If you do that, you will need to get any promises from HR in writing that you don't lose your seniority.

Trust me, stay far away from CA, I’m a life long resident. You don’t want no part of this twisted s-hole. The golden state is no more. It’s one party kool aid rule! You’d be kicking yourself for making a major bad choice!
And why aren’t those splice tech spots in AUTS??!! I don’t see anything mentioning term on those?? Unless I missed it?
People are not kidding about California being an expensive place to live. Sixty year old tract homes that would go for about 100k in the Southeast will run you 600 to 800 thousand anywhere within 50 miles of the coast. If you are willing to live in some Central Valley or Inland Empire dust bowl, you might get away with 350 but your air conditioning costs are going to run you 800 to 1200 dollars a month for six months of the year.
If you haven't already been here for decades, you don't stand a chance to buy on the pay you get as a Wire Tech unless you are willing to live on a dime and save like a miser for 10 years to get your 20% down.
I was lucky, been here since the late 70s so I was able to beat the rush. Both of my college degree kids have left the state so as not to pay 60% of their income on a place to live.
California is a great place to visit - but think long and hard about how much you want to spend 3000 to 4000 dollars a month just to rent a two bedroom apartment in any place worth living in.
It can be done. but the other responses mostly say that you will regret it. The jobs that can't be filled in the region are on the human resources web site. Those are for the whole country. If you go, you will probably have to start your seniority all over at 0 days. If there is a job listed on that site, you can do it.
if i had a choice all day i'd pick florida versus california.
Leg-T or Leg-S Outside plant?
Leg-T are in the NTP, and would worth the move is not in the super high cost of living areas like LA or SF.
I took one of these as a JOG a few years ago. Served my 30 months in the title then transferred somewhere I preferred to be.

Moving from SER to California is a terrible idea. Cost of living + increase in Taxes in California will completely k–l any raise you get.
Look at dish if you are considering a new position. They seem to be very aggressive in the buildout of a greenfield standalone 5G network.
Don’t go from southeast to California. The taxes alone will k–l any raise you get. The state has a 13.3% state income tax. Homes are crazy expensive and a bunch of extra taxes on other items you purchase. $100k in California is like $50k in Tennessee
I would run far far away from California period.

Don’t waste your time, once those markets in the West are saturated the most obvious will begin to happen...more layoffs say in 3-5 years! Is it really worth the move not to mention CA is really expensive to live in and the state takes a lot of your tax dollars! Not worth it!
