Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Does anybody WORK here?

May show up, but do you WORK?
Do you merely show up to collect a paycheck?
Responses please.

I see more managers bragging about how much work they do, than the work that they actually do. The AT&T management revolutionized the term, “communications company.”

Not anymore! I moved 50% of my 401K into a brokerage account and made nearly $400K on Roku and gold stocks. Besides today being online watching the US deception or misdirection election I’m usually on Fidelity or Motley Fool. Coworker told me about Roku but he sold early and lost $89k buying can–bis stocks. Somehow I have more vacation days.. I got a promotion but they switched my insurance because I didn’t respond to all the letters from onestop or benefits people. Some b,is cross bronze c-ap high deductible

It doesn't matter if you work. I put in 12-14 hours a day and oncall when not working (usually adding up to another 2-3 hours a day, 6+ on weekends/holidays) and I was still laid off. Pretty crippling loss to my team and directly lead to a loss of a few high profile enterprise customers, but I guess the bean counters knew better.

Do I actually Work?
I delete all the company emails that came in over night.
I wait for a work order to come in....usually get about 2 work orders a week. About 8 hours total.
I chat with other co-workers on when we plan to retire.
I count down the days until my next vacation week.
I laugh at the stock prices.
Of course I work. What else am I going to do for 40 hours a week at the craft pay scale?

I do the bare minimum to not get canned. That's it. Why would anyone k–l themselves for this greedy incompetent management here. We see what happens to many employees that worked hard. They get laid off regardless. We see what happens to those who did their att university micro degrees. They got canned anyway. Company is a joke. They get out of their employees what they put into them. Which is very little.

I work as hard as I can. I make sure all my responsibilities are handled well. BUT I am really getting sick of the social justice c-ap! I recently applied for a lateral move to a supervisor position mainly just to get supervisor experience on my resume. I interviewed and it went well. I have been with the company for 10 years and have been in management for 7 years and I have a bachelors degree and a Masters in Business Administration. The job was given to a black man that has a technical diploma that has been in craft his entire time with the company. I am not a racist and I am sure the man that got the job deserved a promotion, but he did not deserve it more than I did.

I work an easy 60 hours a week. We’ve been short staffed for years. I hear about other groups not having work and it’s disappointing to hear that because other groups need the help. I too want to be profitable so the company can be. There is a lot of slack up the chain of command, but I cannot change that, so I don’t spend my time worrying about it.
Work ethic is your personal business. Why would anyone hire someone that doesn’t give a 100%.

Yes, just like every CxO, VP and AVP, collecting paycheck and boot-licking their workday out, making sure to keep their heads down not giving a damn about their team.

When someone "works" is because hierarchy asked for it; working here is nothing to do with productivity, innovation, improvement or career development, and waaay far from merit. Morale and motivation can't be simulated, no matter what those internal surveys show (obviously manipulated).

If you want to stay, better be a friend of a bigger bootlicker; the worst part is HR, a true rats nest, manipulated by hierarchy ensuring those bootlickers take a promotion.

Every day, every hour, this company lowers the bar sow low, paycheck is the only thing worth showing up every day (and dividend).

due to ongoing inept dealmaking at att, i've gone thru periods of more work than anyone can handle properly in the past 18 months. then, the client got tired of the endless stupidity and things slowed down. now i'm training my offshore replacements who will handle most of the semi-mindless grunt work in future. work has slowed down for me greatly in past several months, but i can count on att stupidity and process problems and a multitude of semi-slackers here to always create needless fire drills for me to get pulled into. i work in "X" location, with job title "Y", and i've worked in that same job for "Z" number of years, just to be specific for you. oh, i'm also in the "XX" att group and report directly to "ZZ", which may be hit with nearly total fmp's in the near future.

Like any big legacy corporation, good old 80/20 rule, 20% of the folks work and actually make a difference , 80% are slackers and do bare minimum and play the corporate game, collect their salaries, comply with all the bs. policies about training and diversity and al the other corporate bs. Everyone knows the game, they may not say it.. Can't say I blame them everyone will take the road of leas resistance, plus in the end it really doesnt matter, seen a lot of hard workign folks get let go so what;s the point.

There is no incentive to do better, it seems the only thing management cares about is their phony fake numbers that drives the company. They keep bringing in call center people to be 1st level supers for craft. Dont tell me anyone in management cares.

Couldn’t do the job with the inept management in place! Just faked it for the most part! Then took the 80K and retired!

Strive to be mediocre. Your scrutinized for being at the top and chastised for being at the bottom. Att provides no reason to be better than average.

I show up locked & loaded, but if there's no trouble ticket or service order on my laptop screen then I can't do anything about that.

What is work? I spend my working hours from 7 am to about 6 pm every day. I take occasional restroom breaks and eat at my desk. I 'work' about 4 -6 hours non interrupted every day, get side tracked by personal emails and kids....but, I'm pretty much glued to my laptop to be at the beck and call of anyone who sends me a Q message. That's my day pretty much, sometimes I spend more time working, sometimes less.

I go with willingness to work- then I see 80% of my co- workers just show up to collect a paycheck - and management doesn’t do anything about it - so I do what the 80% do, the bare minimum or less lol

I work. Try to stay in the middle. Today it's good jobs in 8.
Tomorrow it'll be repeats.
Be in the middle. Of both.
I try to run them out of $$$.
8 for 8, 16 for 16.
Take zero time, give zero time.
Fly low...your goal should be your deuce has zero idea your name.
Fly low, smile and wave.
Make no friends.
They make the rules, use them to your advantage.
Be smart enough to play stupid.
Profit.

I come to work and make money!I am driven to be profitable for the company that I work for so if I am making a profit for my company then that gives them wiggle room for pay raises!Att will be successful in all the different aspects of business if everyone has the right attitude, that’s from all levels of management to the bottom of the totem pole, hadn’t said that in a while!Just be the best you can be at your job and hope this virus fades away so we can get back on track.
