Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Severance & Unemployment

Chevron says they will not contest unemployment benefits, but state is saying that you will not be able to collect unemployment until “the time” you’re company agreed on in severance pay. So if I have been with Chevron 6 years (18 weeks pay) is that how long we have to wait after receiving the severance check to obtain unemployment?

I work with a guy who got let go with Chevron in 2015. He told me he had no problem collecting unemployment after being let go. Btw, he also got a severance.

To many Trolls on here.

Apply the day after you get your final check from Chevron. This is a one time payment and you can collect unemployment. If they paid the severance out over a few months then you would have to wait. I received unemployment after getting a lump sum check in Texas.

The CVX Severance is not an extension of employment. In Texas you should apply as soon as you are off the payroll. You can do it before applying for CVX severance if it makes you feel better.

“Can’t double-dip”, wrong answer! The Chevron severance is structured as a one off payment. Once received the transaction is completed. That said you can’t apply for unemployment until you are officially off payroll.

Depends on the state and the complete wording. As we see with the media, taking just two words out of many sentences and paragraphs can completely misconstrue the statement. So, OP, which state?

That is correct. Collecting severance is like an extension of employment. Can’t double-dip.
