Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Job market is not as bad as you might think

With the Covid-19 pandemic still raging, you’d think it would be a terrible time to look for work. Not so, says Gad Levanon, vice president for labor markets at the Conference Board, a business-supported research group.

I am a software engineer that knows over 4 languages. The truth is it isn't all roses and sunshine for us either. If I don't get the call I will probably have to leave Houston. The local market is c-ap and will be for awhile. Should have moved to Austin or Dallas 6 years ago, but Chevron benefits were good enough for me.

You could think about moving onwards and upwards and exceeding what you earned by some creative thinking like going into business, etc. But if yo’ve set yourself a limitation then so be it.

What are you talking about?! Cheap, exploitable labor is in demand. This is by design, unfortunately, from a messed up system and predatory profiteering practices railroaded by corporate lobbies. Finding a job that can deliver at least 85-90% of your chevron salary is not happening unless you're an accountant or a computer software engineer that knows 4 different coding languages.
