Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Will they cut the right people?

Let's face it, there's plenty of fat at Chevron that needs to be trimmed. The only issue is that whenever we have layoffs they cut the muscle and the brains and don't touch the fat. It's been like that since I've been here, and I've been here for a while. For once, I'd like to see them get rid of the right folks.

It’s not what you know, it’s who you know

I’m in the same boat. I hit the EOI button for several reasons, but with the way things are going now I thought this would be a good exit strategy.

I just wish they would tell me my EOI has been accepted. I was told I would hear Tuesday but it seems several are hearing today.

The 'right' people are friends and family. They will NOT be cut.

Did not recieve a call today...PSG 22...Most people I know have pondered this decision and a lot of people i've talked with are 50/50 on wanting to get layed off or not. Chevron has given us a pretty good "kick to the curb package" and will help pay for more schooling for us younger generation workers as we transition to other things.

Regardless of election. Oil/Gas is on a downtrend and these layoffs will occur more and more as we transition to a so-called carbon free world. Hell even our own company is buying the Kool-Aid. Pensions and benefits will start crashing in the next decade (just use Exxon for ex.)

I hope and pray for the best for all of you and just know at the end of the day if you do get the layoff call it could be the best thing to happen for you and youre new career (whatever that is). Just keep your head up, keep on grinding, and good things will happen!

There are two people in my group that have become so sick of the new micromanaging for metrics that they are taking EOI because they are so disgusted.

@OP
Whenever there is an option to retire, the first people to leave are the ones who can sell themselves to any company (i.e. the brains) for better money or jobs.

So (with exceptions), the company is left with the bulk of folks who for whatever reason believe that their job or salary ambition is best served with CVX. These are the folks you are calling "the fat."

I would encourage you to include yourself in this group too.

Chevron criteria for Selection R4:
PMP Rating 3-> Keep you so we can get rid of you at next PMP rating.
PMP Rating 2-> Throw dice. Even = stay. Odd = go.
PMP Rating 1 -> Bye bye you are too expensive.

Agreed! I would have much rather have kept some of the folks they let go in 2015 than some of the yahoos I worked with over the last 5 years. I am sure we will run into the same this round.

The problem always start at the top. If the leadership can manage well, how the hell those fat can stick around and become cancer now? The top won’t change, then nothing should expected to change.

Yes I remember layoffs 5 years ago. I was surprised by some of the people they let go and even more surprised with some of the people they didn’t let go. It’s a cr@pshoot.

While easier said than done, don’t take it personally if your left standing. Sometimes it’s is just the way the cookie crumbles.

This rarely happens though. Have you seen the HR function lately?

I’ve been here since Texaco days we have more coordinators that do nothing but schedule meetings and safe agile people that make me tell them what I’m doing even though they don’t understand anything I tell them. Probably those people will stay and the good people will be gone
