Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Survey closes today

How many of you anonymous commenters here answered the org health survey and filled in comments truthfully? It takes courage when there’s a possibility someone’s going to know it was you!

Honest answer? The reason why no one brings issues up to their leadership is because our group leads want to be promoted to manager so they are afraid to bring anything negative to the existing managers who are also wanting to be promoted, and so need to be so so positive to the VPs. It’s a vicious circle where no one tells truth to power. The surveys are a bit of a joke because they can ID comments down to below the group lead so if you say anything negative they can figure out who you are pretty quickly and then it’s over for you. The survey is not anonymous and you know it. So go ahead and call people out on here that’s fine but keep in mind HR is a big part of the problem as you continually blow sunshine up the leaderships behinds as you too are afraid to report if things don’t look so good on staff moral. I filled mine out and was as honest as I could be but they want good numbers not truth. That’s why you will spin the survey results to fit your story.

@avbu+174sa73F - that’s the exact attitude you get from your leaders in HR. I don’t think any of the leaders in HR have a big enough “set” to actually receive feedback and do anything constructive with it. The only difference is then you know who gave the feedback and you can make sure you punish them everyday going forward or hope they quit so you can hire or promote more of your friends.

There is no integrity in HR followed by no accountability and that is what is truly embarrassing.

@avbu+174sa73F, what would you suggest if my "leader" is witnessing the behavior also? Should I attempt to educate them that I perceive the behavior we are witnessing to be bullying? That it is discouraging to witness such behavior, and it makes me feel sad? How do you think that conversation would go with your leader, honestly? Would they go and talk to AP? Or would they say, "that's not bullying, that's Cenovu- I mean performance management."

I actually would like to hear constructive feedback if you have some. But if you want to sling mud from behind a screen like me then go ahead. We're all on the same side here.

@avbu+174sa73F , yea grand idea to talk to "leadership" about concerns. It has never served anyone well who did that in the past. Just try to find anybody who did that in the past... oh yea, i forgot... they all got axed. Leadership, what a joke.

If things are so awful in the so called circus and you feel the need to call individuals out on social media, why not grow a pair and have an adult conversation on what you are unhappy with, perception of what you’re seeing, etc. Talk to your leader instead of behind backs. Your negative attitude and hiding behind a screen is juvenile and embarrassing.

The thought of HR filtering information to the CLT frightens me. I still can't get over SW's promotion to VP, Corp Services. That was the most gendered, short-sighted decision AP made since joining and we have all been paying for it since. From my perspective, it seemed to be purely to keep some semblance of diversity on the CLT. Am I wrong? Does anyone have a positive thing to say about her leadership? What has she done well for Cenovus? From all I have heard she is a bully. I know that seems fitting for Cenovus leadership but it's not a good role model for HR. Especially when they're meant to drive company culture.

I hear that there’s been a decision to only show the positives to the CLT. I’m sure the many hundreds of comments were not positive but sure show just show the positive %% to the CLT!

Unfortunately it starts with SWaltdisney running a playground, below that KrisCross will make you (her team) jump; no empowerment, allows her team to circumvent company practices (hiring, firing) and bureaucracy of everything going up the chain to the highest power and finally fabulous hiring based on loyalty/friendships instead of merit. It’s a circus.
