I would start buying storage lockers at auction and sell the contents....

Surplussed in July. Enjoying retirement. Pursuing a completely different career that I wanted to do for a long time and finally have the time to do it. Loving life.
It's amazing how many ex employees are on this site as part of their therapy. The younger ones should take note of how things don't end up well here.

I was surplused in July 2020, I had been wanting to retire, and in addition to retiring, I received my 6 month surplus pay (2nd line mgr, and met the MR-75). It was a pain in the ars getting out with a short surplus- I guess the fake rona virus had something to do with it.
I was highly technical with military and AT&T (1983-2020), the last thing I wanted to do was to stay in a technical role.
I am a bowhunter, as well as an instructor with Texas Parks and Wildlife, with that I was able to slip into a position at an archery shop in Fort Worth, and recently started at a local Walmart Sporting goods dept. Pay s—s- but much more rewarding than a 24x7 management position with AT&T. I no longer wake up at night thinking of what I need to do tomorrow,

I found another job before leaving AT&T - my boss at the time was asking me to wait for a round of layoff, get some more money, etc. I was just tired of the company. I now have a new job, and looking back, it was the best decision of my life. Obviously, there are challenges and difficulties with every job, BUT, i don't have to worry every day about what round of layoff am I going to part of. After the $tupid acquisition of DTV, we lost almost everyone working on U-verse and the place I worked at became a sad and depressing place. Trust me, AT&T is not paying you as much as you are worth - I am making more $ and happier too. Good Luck to everyone.
Retire, change away from all ATT services, and then work for myself as a consultant being my own boss, taking on projects that interest me, that I want to do, when I want to do them. Also buy a big fancy high end sports car, take pictures of it, email it to people I know still working here.
Same thing I'd do after I left any job. Get another one.

Cancel all your T services, since you loose all the "discounts" and get cheaper and better services elsewhere!
Be a car salesman.
Work or not, do what you want. Enjoy the 900grand 401k with pension. Or find another job.

I did it in March of 2015. The offer was full lump sum plus 10% kicker of the amount as motivation. While considering, Donovan sent out emails threatening layoffs by end of the year. I had 28 years and had worked at other corporations in IT for several years so my total was 40 years.
What do you do? Travel, learn new things, have lunch a lot with former co-workers, do the projects you wanted to do for a long time around the house. Friends of mine in the same situation teach at the local grade school, and consult in their field of expertise.
It's up to you to grab the opportunities awaiting for you.
Since I drive a company vehicle and have to be responsible while still with T, I’d start smoking weed no doubt about it!!!
