Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Will they ever stop micromanaging?

Employees are micromanaged to death in Allstate. I don’t know what drives that behaviour. Maybe it is a need for survival, or managers are are just showing their desire for power more than ever.
Read this post on another thread ( @1enn+16sFmeNr ), someone who works in ABO wrote it, but he might as well have described the place where I work. The same problems left and right, a lack of trust in one’s skills is so pervasive here. I just can’t stand it anymore.

I am going to lean into discomfort and say my leader is never overbearing and always transparent. If it is good he will tell us. If it is bad or unknown he will tell us. None of us like the “not knowing”, but we do trust each other and our leader.

unfortunately positions of power are most aggressively sought out by corrupt people and likewise positions of power tend to corrupt those that have not yet been corrupted. This is why stories of toxic bosses are so common but you rarely hear stories of the amazing boss everyone loves. Sadly, people with cluster B personality disorders are frequent in such positions. Healthy people are more content just being good people going about their daily lives. They don’t feel that pathological need to control, terrorize, and wield power over others nor do they require excessive admiration in order to feel good about themselves. They’re also hindered by a sense of morality. Good people rarely can compete. For a leader to resist the toxicity requires great integrity. Hats off to them.

Keep in mind that rough times such as these can bring out the worst in everyoneMd that includes managers. Bosses resorting to micromanaging could merely be reacting to the same stressors that are affecting everyone.

Majority of people hired at AS bring lots of experience who are essentially overqualified for their role. On the other hand you have managers/leadership that couldn't work a day in the job of the people they are micromanaging. The extraordinary uneven balance of power is one of the large reasons we are losing market share. Promote based on merit and not tenure/politics.

Overbearing leader...see translation: employee underperforms. Absent leader...see translation: employee meets or exceeds goals. Both have ups and downs but the devils in the details.
