Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Why can't we do what Dysney did?

Disney Passed long ago the 60.5M Subscribers mark, Reaching their 5-Year Streaming Goal In the First Eight Months of service.
AT&T achieved 4M subscribers, Projecting 100M subscribers by 2030.

Disney content versus Friends reruns. Gee, I wonder who'll win that battle.

Because Disney actually thought things through and made sure to launch Disney+ with THE MANDALORIAN, which they cleverly built buzz around for over a year prior. Disney also has an identifiable brand that has proven successful for almost a hundred years. Not to mention the company is run by people who LOVE movies and TV, and not by pencil pushers who wouldn't know great entertainment if it smacked them in the dividend.

Disney can milk a cash cow (how many new Star Wars themed series, cartoons and Blockbusters have they done, not to talk about Marvel stuff), while AT&T skipped a whole season of the most watched TV series at the time (GoT).
Disney has content for the whole family instead of gratuitous p–n in any movie because they can.
Disney kept the content non political (or at least not obviously leftist) while HBO only caters to the left.
Disney lowered the price compared to Hulu while AT&T increased it...
Disney is available on any device (roku, etc), while I have HBO Max and no big screen to watch it...

Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars, Elsa, the Lion King, and the Simpsons vs. umm the Game of Thrones which everyone knows the end of and people itching to rewatch Friends for the eleventieth time, the Fresh Prince, and the Sopranos?

There is another part of this equation that people seem to be ignoring. I don't think a lot of people understand that parents will most always put kids first when deciding how to spend their limited entertainment budget.

On a limited monthly budget, If little Suzie wants Disney+ and mom or dad wants HBO Max. Guess which service they probably subscribe to?

If you can’t answer that question, you must be named John and are qualified to be CEO.

Seriously though, people fly to Disney from all over the world. They stay at these fantastic resorts. Go to the happiest (except for dad) place on earth. Even as an adult it’s like you are a kid again. You get to see your kids faces light up. I mean it’s a lifestyle, a vacation destination, and a throw back to simpler times.

Plus they have their own content and don’t share. Want to watch anything Disney you have to buy the Blu-ray or stream on Disney plus.

What does hbo max have? None of that.

@aak+16ocCUo5, Only a fool would have thought that the HBO Max launch would be comparable to Disney+, because the situations are entirely different.

You should be AT&T CEO, LoL

Disney has the content consumers want at an unbelievably low price. What does HBO Max deliver? Friends...lol

Well Disney+ was a brand new service, something that potential customers did not already have access to (all Disney content in one place).

HBO Now/Go already had a significant subscriber base, so the enhanced version of HBO Max would have to be executed well enough as to be enticing to all existing customers as well as new customers that had already decided they didn’t want or need HBO. The branding, service, and launch had all been poorly executed and confusing enough as to fail on making people think they need it.

Only a fool would have thought that the HBO Max launch would be comparable to Disney+, because the situations are entirely different.

Because the OTT (streaming market ) is saturated ...Hulu, Disney+, Amazon Prime, YourTube TV, Netflix , Sling, Roku, Tubi, Fubo..... And HBOMax . And there's at least that many smaller players ... Most house holds aren't going to subscribe to more than 2 , Netflix plus .... So now HBOMax is a johnny come lately and people overestimate the value of
previous content to bring over new customers.

Ohh yeah and add to that, that we're in the middle of pandemic and pros have to decide whether to put their $15 towards another TV service or towards rent now that they've been laid off....

How many workers did Disney furlough and cut during COVID while ATT retained and paid extra money?

Because you have Ratty and Stinky in charge and they chased away all the talent at TW just like they chased away all the talent from all the aquired companies.

It is the T way!

Ratty needs to go!
Stinky needs to go!
Zucher needs to go!
Poppin' Fresh needs to go!
