Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Severance payment for management employees plus COBRA

I did not see the answer to the severance question. Sorry if it is a repeat. Keep in mind we have new people all the time so it should be useful if it’s repeated. My last day on payroll was 7/24. I got my last “regular” payment on 8/6. Based on you all experience, how long after you were off payroll did you get your severance check .? Also I got my COBRA letter yesterday. While continuing health insurance is steeper than I have been paying, I compared it to healthcare.gov and its a bargain compared to that monstrosity. I asked my wife to add me to her insurance and between her and her company its not done. Her company kept demanding a letter from ATT on ATT letterhead stating that I no longer have health insurance. Claiming its IRS regulation, that is a lie, and she is too stupid to not know thats not accurate. She is now coming to me with an attitude so I am at this time without health insurance, because I am depending on her. This is from a woman who was covered by me from 1994 until I dropped her about 3 years ago because she has insurance from her company and AT&T would have charged me 200 per month to have her on my plan. She was upset when I did that so I guess its revenge time. As they say, revenge is a dish sweeter when eaten cold. Oh well, It is scary, but God is in control.

Here’s the pisser about the whole deal; most of these jobs are not going away. They will either be off-shored, or given to an H1B. Is this even America any more?

thanks@aqg+16ljSiFW. I should have waited:-). Today I got in the mail a package of retireee medical information . well the "cheapest" medical option Aetna Bronze is 703 bucks per month for an individual. its cheaper to do COBRA.

I was management and retirement eligible when I was surplussed /laid offin late 2018. I was offered COBRA and the Corporate Medical Plan. The Corporate Plan was cheaper and better than COBRA. I am paying @ $850 a month deducted from my pension to cover my spouse and I.

Yeah some folks get the 6 months I think they call that CEC, i am one of the “lucky” ones who get to pay COBRA or retireee both of which are higher than the CEC. I wont complain, stuff happens. I just hope I can pick up a decent job before the money runs out. Lol. All the best to all even the “nasty” ones on this particular thread.

I was management, off payroll a few days ago. I don’t know anything about the retiree medical, butt I had individual Silver medical coverage. Since I was over 5 years, I get to keep my same health insurance, same program, Silver, same costs, they will just bill me monthly for 6 months the same rate they took from my paycheck. Also, we have to do annual enrollment even though we are Surplus they said. It’ll be a few different options since we won’t have dental or vision. I got the Cobra prices on those and they’re actually not bad at all. As for severance you are correct, 45 days after signing that waiver. Best of luck to you.

Btw I don’t whine to her as she is a lousy support structure. If she asks what’s going on I share otherwise I don’t say anything. You may not believe in god I do. Your choice. I choose to believe and trust. Not all things will be good whether you believe or not. I choose to trust him in all things so when things are bad I have him to lean on. Who/what do you lean on when things are bad?

Wow nice responses. Oh well. Thanks to the person who suggested calling payroll. I will let others Judge for themselves the other wonderful responses. Anyway is there anyone on this thread who was surplussed (management, non bargained) and was offered the management retirement medical. Can they share the costs they were told? I was told 1300 Per month for family (I had family less spouse as she has coverage at her job) that’s kinda steep. I should have asked them how much for individual. I called them yesterday and they say she cannot change it to allow me have them ability to see if retirement or cobra would be better But she opened a ticket to see if that’s possible to change so I could so the retiree medical. Yeah I know I’m cheap. Since I don’t k ow when I’ll be working again I have to be careful with funds. Plus severance could take up to 45 days after off payroll right?

You can call payroll to ask when your severance payment is scheduled. Also your COBRA letter should be proof that you’re no longer covered.
