Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Inept cowards...

This is the best description that I can muster for the Executives in Dallas. Scripted Town Halls with no authenticity. Q&A sessions where no one can ask the hard questions while remaining anonymous. Focus and fanfare directed at G–s, Lesbians, Transvestites, and every other manner of one-offs in Society (don't get me wrong, no problem in my book with the fact that some people have different affinities than me; just don't want their life/love choices forced down my throat every 5 mins.) Dishonest Investor calls where we make up numbers for subscribers to our services and conveniently double count folks when it is a benefit to telling the fib. Force reductions that preserve the good ol' boy crowds but decimate many who are actually contributing. Now the renewed focus on Diversity when the company's overall statistics are actually completely in line with the Nation's demographics. However the Executive Suite is completely behind the curve and will not be addressed. Do what we say; not what we do, Slimy, seedy, backroom dealing bunch of wanna' be executives that would pimp their grandmoms if they thought it would get them a greater title and more pay. Disgust, pure unadulterated disgust. Godless, immoral cult of pretenders.

The issue with al you mentioned is the pandering efforts from the millionaires that continue to look for ways to try to seem woke as a company. The bottom line is that no one I know gives a flying flip who you are if you get your work done and treat others well. This over focus is meant to distract us from the massive layoffs that will continue through the end of the year due to scrambling to keep a stock dividend on line with expectations and the force of The Eliot Group. Keep thinking it’s about trying to rectify some perceived inequality. That’s what they want you to think.

@1owm The only person that seems to be harboring feelings of hate on this thread seems to be you. And it also sounds like you consider yourself to be a soothsayer and clairvoyant that can see what is the hearts of others. Write a book or start a podcast or something. Or loot a store or punch a 90 year old in the face. Or buy a armored vest for your grandchild to wear when doing any of the above. Your IP address shows you to be on the West Coast. Your ideology of victimization and systemic oppression fits nicely with many locations there. Twist a spliff and chill out already.

@pzl+16lPiDOZ Anyone who is doing useful work for this company does not care about s-xual orientation of anyone. Also, anyone who does useful work for this company does not care about the race of the person they work with. The only thing we, that do useful work worry about is that the person we are dealing with is competent, and if not they are there yet, are they willing to learn. We that do useful work all started some where and did not have any semblance of company training. We learned on the job from our peers. I have walked into bathrooms at work that corresponded with my s-x/genitalia and been met with people that were very unlikely to possess the genitalia that would direct them to the bathroom we were both in. Guess what, we went there to drop a deuce and nothing more. If at some point I get a call from this individual for help in the field, I, and I think I speak for many of my co-workers, will treat this person as a fellow technician and nothing less.

I have many, many years with the T itanic with no end in site, job appears to be solid even though layoffs are pervasive! I’m sticking around as long as they’re willing to give me full time pay for part time work...it’s really a fr—-kn joke how other business units are downsizing, but mine is actually hiring when there is very little work to support the staff that’s already there now! No wonder T management is so inept...can’t see the forest through the trees!

@pzl+16lPiDOZ go back to your safe place. The real world is a tough place. Every gender, cisgender, no gender, race, ethnicity and religion has their challenges in life. In a free society, people can choose to accept, endorse, reject or simply tolerate any or all behaviors, lifestyles or cultures (so long as they are moral, ethical and legal). At the end of the day, I owe a work mate respect, support on the job and equal treatment. I do not have to embrace their values or behavior outside of the job. And I sure as heck don't need to have anyone at an Executive level make that demand of me. Check your s-xuality, faith and any other non-work related baggage at the door when you come to work. Pretty simple actually.

AT&T has become Clown World, and you’re not going to change that. Either accept it for what it is, and hope for the best, or prepare yourself for your next gig. No one is coming to your rescue. Either fend for yourself, or play the odds, and hope for the best. It’s as simple as that.

Doesn’t make sense to say you have X amount of HBO Max customers to investors. Their thinking these are all paying customers but in reality almost all of them are bolt on customers- either free trial or it’s included with their current service. These Town Halls are just lip service and catering to the trend of what is happening today to try to make you feel good and/or try to make the brand look good. I don’t even watch them anymore. I just play them in the background on mute. Anything important will always be sent in an email or my director will say something.

Yeah the whole diversity stuff, is just a cover , because they don't want to talk about the hard topics dealing with force reductions and fake sub numbers, they need a feel good story that doesn't cost too much.

Of course corporate town halls are always going to be rah rah events, these guys never express the real concerns about the business, partially, because they're afraid of legal exposure, and mostly because executives operate in a different realm than the front line and middle tier workers, so they're not going to expose any dirty laundry to the employees . It fosters a culture of us vs. them and does sh*t for morale. Everything management tells employees and customers is fake, or whitewashed so as not to offend or perturb anyone.

This is BAU (Business as Usual), Town Halls have always been scripted and a huge waste of time. Going back several years, my Director and I would joke about how people in the audience were hand picked and the answers were scripted. In fact, I attended a town hall and was asked if I would like to ask one of these scripted questions, as though it would be an honor or something. I declined.
