Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

40%+ Layoff Survivors: What's your work-life like now?

If your area was heavily impacted by the last layoffs (like 30% or 40% or more cut), what's happening in your area now? Has everyone's work doubled? Are projects getting cut? Has work ground to a halt? Are reorgs happening? Are people just carrying on? Has your job gotten even crazier? What's happening with your workgroup? What are your (new?!) managers saying?

I was part of a big cut in my area, and I'm wondering what day-to-day life is like at work now
(putting aside from all the executive messaging that other people post about here).

Time for a force in balance district 7. Other areas are being forced OT. Maybe you will get moved so you can quit complaining about some idle time. You’ve posted the same thing a hundred times on different post

Yes, I’m hearing in district 7 ATT keeps hiring technicians for work they’re expecting to come down the pike, but nothing so far! In the mean time, techs are working part-time for full-time pay! Nice work if you can get it!

People just finding out that there “go to” person for specific systems are no longer there and there is very little expertise left. Apparently upper management had the idea that there were a ton of platforms with few customers so they felt they could abandon them and the support.

Someone me will have to tell senior management that those old platforms still have large percentage of our customers on them and they have not allocated money to build out the go coward platform.

So yeah, lots of things will break and lots of customers will leave because no one is left who understand them.

This is what happens when mid levels send misleading power points to senior management. It’s like the Chernobyl documentary. Everybody lies to the people above them.

Since the enhanced offer we lost 6 techs in our area (Atlanta) and we now have either forced or connecting overtime everyday. Techs are also being forced in on off days and weekends. Sounds like there needs to be a force in balance for areas that aren’t busy.

Life is what you make it at the T. So stop complaining and get it done on your own terms and take care of your customer.

Yes reorgs are happening. In terms of the fallout, it's too soon. Millenia of experience and knowledge walked out. Stuff doesn't break or need tweaking every day. You find out what you lost and how it hurts you eventually but not in the first month.

Sorry to hear that techs are idle. That means that not much has been sold to install. And why has Sales not sold anything? Because Sales teams, too, have been laid off. Those that are left behind are totally overworked and spend too much time trying to beat their way through broken systems just to get something priced, contracted and ordered. And when something finally does get ordered, they are being told that the install is 90-120 days out, because there are not enough techs left to do the work or there is no equipment to be had. Get the discrepancy in the message? And, oh, there is a pandemic and customers are closing doors; nobody is buying. And the few orders that do come through take forever to install because the resources are not there. The company cannot handle the low load is has; it will not be equipped to handle more. No orders, no revenue.. Not good.

ATT bean counters aren’t looking hard enough because there are more techs sitting around with little or no work in district 7, yet the poorly misguided supervisors find it necessary to hire more techs to relieve the techs that are sitting with nothing to do! It’s an absolute joke with no clear direction in site! We’re getting paid a lot of $$$ to come to work everyday with very little to do...gotta love it!

Good I work for the power company and make more money. It’s also much less stressful and next week I’ll have a job. there’s life after AT&T.

Things are about the same. We just tell other divisions "no" more often and explain to customers that our response time is now 10 days instead of 48 hours. Life is Good.
