Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

I don't think I will have the courage to go on if I loose this job

I am just not strong enough. I'm too old too tired. I Don't, I can't. Moving isn't simple, it will be extremely hard on my family. I have struggled the past 10 years as it is. Financially, I am already drowning.

Indeed there IS life after Allstate. I was 30 plus years there until they decided to dump everything to India. Know what? It was the BEST thing that happened. I found my way and am stress free because I work for a REAL business. The only way out, is through. That's my mantra. You DO have this. Your job does NOT define you and who you are...only you do. YOU WILL FIND YOUR WAY....I promise. God bless.

OP - I seriously hate that you are feeling this way. Layoffs could NOT come at a worse time. I've been with Allstate 25 years plus and would have never believed the company is doing this to their employees. I too struggle with depression. I thought I was getting better until June. Immediately went to the doctor and placed on new medication. I'm afraid this is going to send a lot of people into a depression or worse. Pray every day. I do not live beyond my means, but there have been things occur that I had to borrow money to take care of someone else. The company has NO IDEA and DO NOT CARE what they are doing to their employees. Sad, sad state of affairs. TW and GS have no idea what they are doing to the eomployees financially and emotionally and again they don't care.

You’re not alone. I’ve gotten back on some medication I didn’t think I’d need. That hurts a lot. Thought I was strong enough but, no I’m not. I can blame Allstate, truth be told I can find some place safer and happier, so can you. We can fight these demons together.

Question- how many have already experienced an Allstate Lay-off in the last two months?
Did these people receive any tenure?
Are you/they experiencing a life crisis of any kind? (Financially, mental health, etc.)
I mentioned the Legacy Fund yesterday, it would be a fully accountable process requiring at least two expedited approvals by elected Board Members for accountability.
100% off all donations would support Legacy Allstate Employees and Esurance Legacy employees laid off during the 2020 crisis.
This would be a structured solely designed to support the emergent needs of the aforementioned employees.
My husband and I are non profit founder and manage a Legacy Fund in conjunction with a Community Foundation for homeless school age children.
In the near future, I will provide more details of a proposed outline in place to assist fellow Allstate and Esurance coworkers in need.
We will be looking for a few Allstate and Esurance volunteers to contribute towards the approval process of disbursing funding.

It is not easy to say; especially when 30 years of your life has been dedicated to making the company the best it can be. It certainty is not right; not fair.

That being said you important. You are strong. You are cared for. You are loved.

"You are not your job"

Not really easy to say when you've spent 30 years working for a company and were planning very specifically on it turning out a certain way. There is a point where it just seems unethical.

Honestly.. I feel the same way sort of. This feels clearly targeted toward older employees who have given their entire life to not just Allstate but more importantly the customers... I mean I’ve probably helped and calmed down more than 500000 customers and claimants over my career, which does more for transformative growth than anything. And yes, I have my health but I also had a plan.. a plan that was implied to be two sided and I’m so close to having that plan executed and now pulled out from under me . It’s a horrible feeling and I feel hopeless too and those cowards running the show could care less

There are a group of us that will give up our jobs, receive severance and move on. Especially if Allstate would guarantee your job. Here is an idea: we should start an Allstate Legacy Fund (GoFundMe) to assist those having a hardship due to being laid off. This fund could assist those without tenure.

You need to go seek help STAT. Make an appointment first thing Monday to be seen by your Doctor. You may need to be written out on Disability and focus on yourself and family FIRST! Everything will fall into place. You deserve better than to settle for working for a company that does not value their employees and works you excessively. I have seen many posts that confirm that the move from Allstate was the best decision they have made. Focus on what makes you happy and do not let a job defeat you!

You are more resilient than you know. Give yourself time to decompress and refresh your spirit. 3 Once you start looking and applying, know that you'll never hear from 60%, you'll be rejected by 30% and interview with 10%. Anytime you beat these ratios, you are lucky. Its a numbers game and it has NOTHING to do with your value as a person. Hugs

Just take it one day, one minute, at a time. Things never turn out as bad as they seem. You will get through this. Believe in yourself and what you have to offer. Try to take care of yourself. Stay well.

Please know a job, a career does not define you or your future. You can do this whatever the future brings. I know it’s hard. I’ve bled blue for 30 plus years. It’s scary and it s—s. Our loyalty means nothing and it’s a slap in the face to weigh tenure at 5%. However, we we will be ok because that is our nature. We will put one foot in front of the other and we will do whatever it takes. You are worth it. You are better than this. You will make it. Have faith.

Just pure greed. Tried searching monster , careerbuilder , indeed .com and there’s nothing out there . I never thought our company would let its loyal workers go during this time , Especially after Tom mentioned in a NY Times article last year that thecAmericsn worked should be valued over profits and greed. Just a slap in the face to us . Hoping not to lose my house if we get let go . .

There are a lot of programs out there. Please don't do anything rash, you are worth it!

Severance, Unemployment, and there are going to continue to be more programs. Please hang in there and don't make the mistake of waiting to ask for help, even if it's just someone to talk with.

Consider reaching out to EAP which offers counseling services. I know there are more programs but this may be a good one to start with.

You will be OK- I was part of the 2017 RIF and I felt exactly like you do now. I chose to move and stayed with Allstate and received my assessment yesterday. I have accepted what will likely happen again.I have made the choice that this time I will not move my family for this company again.
I will find another job that will not pay as much but I will enjoy my work I will hug my kids and grandchildren I will focus my energy on my family even if we live in a shack and eat beans everyday. You can choose this as well and you will be OK! I know how you feel I’m old and tired financially unstable but remember there are things that a job can not affect- family, friends church or what ever it is focus on that and just let the rest fade away it is just noise.
I don’t hate this company or anyone here because I have chosen not to. I see nothing but greed and selfishness all around me and have chosen to accept I can’t change it so why spend the time trying.
I pay you will be okay and make the choice to focus on what matters

OP I feel same way let go in this economy and a pandemic I’m very scared and very depressed. I don’t live beyond my means I just have dependents that I won’t be able to care for. I understand how you feel and would even take pay cut but that’s not option. I cannot relocate. It’s devastating and I am scared for my family.

Hey OP. I know these times are more than tough. Please take care of yourself. I won’t give you any platitudes because I know personally they don’t help most of the time. Just know that while there are some angry comments on here about each other, most if not all of us are keeping good thoughts for you. Wishing you the best possible outcome.

you got to keep your head up it's really sad how Allstate did this at this time with so much going on in the world . This is too much for anyone to deal with it was a bad time.. They feel it was good time they did not think this out they was thinking about their self . Please don't let this job get to you. You will be okay I am scared with you .. Right now with everything going on in the world this add to the list of stress ... The coronavirus outbreak has triggered unprecedented mass layoffs and furloughs. Here are the major companies that have announced they are downsizing their workforces. The sad part is Allstate doing this to get more money .. Most job doing because of the coronavirus Allstate doing it because of the wrong reason. but please don't you will be okay
