Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Transformation 101

We get speech after speech on Transformation. Video after video. Town Hall after bloody Town Hall. Yet… All we see and understand is pain. Whether it was VIP, Vision 2020,
Virtualization and SDN, or current Transformation, all we see are layoffs as path forward. We don’t share the vision, because we don’t buy into it.

If the vision is Fiber and Wireless get rid of all else (including DirecTV and AT&T Mexico). Can they even admit that the vision for Fiber and wireless doesn’t share a thread with Time Warner Mission Statement. Roll Time Warner into an independent subsidiary. Free retail and care from having to worry about selling content.

And more than anything, make us believe that pain is shared. Not just to people under VP level with threat of constant layoffs. Make layoff weapon of last resort. Why don’t we see Randall and Stankey take 50% pay cuts. Why does the independent contractor (Elliott’sh– man) not take a pay cut. Why do All SVPs not take 40% pay cut. Why not VPs take 30% pay cut. Why not AVPs take 25% pay cut. Why not Directors take 20% pay cut. Why not Level 2s take 10% pay cut, and level 1 take 5% pay cut. Why unions not take 5 and 10% pay cuts(based on pay). Share this vision and message. I guarantee if you share this message and do these actions, people will rally. As is, we don’t buy into transformation. The pain is all ours, the gain is all those senior management folks in Ivory towers.

What they need to get rid of is paying the bills right now. I get the frustration, but it’s simplifying the bigger issue: mismanagement.

At the next annual meeting there needs to be a proposal to require the executives to maintain the debt ratio below a certain level. You could even make their compensation dependent on the debt level. Less debt more money/stock options.

You forgot the most important thing. Why don't shareholders take a temporary pay cut? It's as though the risk-reward model of capitalism that is promulgated by talking heads of industry doesn't actually apply to those who purchase stock and then expect it to pay off when the leaders of the company make terrible, terrible decisions.

My personal transformation is I don't give a fook about this company's success any more. It wasn't an immediate transformation, but a gradual one over the years of being mistreated by incompetent management and witnessing never ending layoffs year after year after year.

This is the at&t hunger games now, and the odds aren't in any of our favors.

Everyone - I see the same common thread about employees from many companies... "oh they only care about themselves or the stock holders"... be a stock holder, not just AT&T, but many quality companies... it's that simple...

I used to think T was a great place to work, now that I’ve witnessed first hand how incompetent senior management has been over the last 2 decades, not so much anymore! No more putting my career first! It’s me first, now and always, T runs a distant 3rd cuz I no longer care anymore about whether or not T succeeds or fails cuz it’s not on me, never was! Senior management continually is rewarded for their mistakes while we’re penalized over and over and over again! That’s MY transformation!

No one’s total annual compensation should be more than $1 Million as long as the debt is more than the Company’s one year of earnings.

The CFO makes $16+ Million and the CEO makes $30+ Million in total annual compensation.

10 people that work here call when you’re doing an install wondering when you can dispatch on a trouble or another install. Customers wait all day for someone to connect or restore service. Maybe if 8 of the callers get fired and more workers get hired the stock price will go up. Too many people work here waiting for someone else to do any real work. Looking at spreadsheets and making phone calls is not work.

This is smoke and mirrors. There is no transformation here - the workers will continue to be laid off en masse, workloads and stress for those remaining will continue to increase, bonuses and compensation will be stagnant or reduced.

Meanwhile, those in the C-Suite will continue to receive compensation completely disproportionate to their contribution to this company's success.

Business will continue to decline, as there is no actual business plan for success, only meaningless town hall presentations. Expect this company to be split up or bankrupt by 2030.

Family first hell lawn work first then this place. It is hard to do if you have a good work ethic but that needs to be reevaluated just like our jobs are all the time.

This is not how corporate America works... It's not "shared pain" ,never was .... You as a worker are just a line item (liability) on the balance sheet. The executives simply need to manage and maximize your work product and when that's not longer of value your cut loose. So you need to treat the work the same way with indifference.

Problem with working class folks like us, is we've been bamboozled into thinking were part of "a team", or "AT&T family" or whoever other flowery language executives like to use, but your real relationship couldn't be further from the truth, your an expendable resource...

Approach your job from that perspective and you sleep better at night

Well said. However, the beatings will continue until morale improves.
