How is it fair that people with senority get every saturday off that should be spred out evenly with the team. I can’t get a single saturday off after 9 months with company some of us have lives outside work this senority rule is not right and the union won’t do anything to get me a saturday off

I didn’t get a weekend off for almost 4 years. You have been here 9 months. Find someone to switch or pay them to switch if it’s that big of a deal.
I and to work on my dog’s birthday last week and I’ll have to work on my cat’s bday this upcoming Saturday. It sux
22 year vet. 830 to 530 Monday thru Friday and a week off every other month.
@2ctc- then go back to Verizon if you don’t like it, unless of course, you can’t, because you were most likely fired. Like a previous poster noted, it’s retail, Saturday’s are typically busy. You don’t like it, quit. People are getting laid off yet you and OP complain about your schedules. If your coworkers liked you, maybe they’d offer to swap shifts once in awhile, but I doubt it.
This is my beef with the union. I had better benefits and a rotating schedule with Verizon. Yet the union wants me to pay dues.

Union is working out fine. It’s ludicrous to think a low seniority employee should get choice work time slots. Low seniority gets the unattractive time slots, nights, weekends, split shifts. That’s how it works. Stop the crying you privileged little baby. If you don’t like your schedule QUIT. Everyone had to put in the time, to earn their way, to earn their spot. You need to do the same.

If I choose to work at a bar, I know I have to work nights, sometimes until 3am.
If I choose to work at ihop and we open at 6am, I probably have to work at 5:30am.
50+ million people unemployed, If I choose to work for ATT retail, I expect to work Saturdays.
Why are there so many people feel like they are entitled and have zero regards and respect to what they chose to do but instead complain and try to change employers rather than changing their own attitudes??
Saturdays and Sundays are the busiest and best days to be selling in retail. You should be lucky you're working those days and not during the slower hours. You should be one of the top sellers in the store with the weekend traffic in the store.
24 years and never had a Christmas or thanksgiving week off ever. I put in my share of weekends due to seniority. It is what it is and you either deal with it like a grown up or leave. Assuming OP won’t last another 9 months.

That is what seniority is all about. IF you are still around later you too will get the better hours. Bet you won’t have the same attitude then, but if you feel so strongly, feel free to offer the newbies your Saturdays off by offering to swap with them

Life happens on the weekends and T plus many other companies don’t care. Meanwhile management is off and home by 3 to clean their butts.
I am in IHX and when our state unionized that was the end of Saturdays off for all but 2 people on our team. I haven’t been able to get a Saturday off since. That is the worst part of being in a union. Well that and all the vacation days we lost!
Its a right of passage. Every low senior person went thru this. If you make it to a senior position you wont want to work a weekend to give a newby the weekend off.
You can have Saturdays off when you get lay-off. Every one had to work the worse shifts. Grown a pair.

Good grief! Rather than whinging about having to work Saturdays you might consider diverting some of your energy toward educating yourself so you can communicate in a proper manner.

It’s retail. Also, you were told the expectations on scheduling before you accepted the job. I know this because I have read those job expectations to numerous reps. Everyone says “oh no problem at all”.. until they realize they can’t whine and complain to get their way. Quit, go to a non union job, and for F sake- grow up. I’m 36, and 12 years in the reps get lazier and whinier. NOT ALL- there are some hard working ones. But enough with the ragging on “boomers”. We should all be so lucky to have their pension benefits, experience and work ethics.
It took me almost 12 years to get a Saturday off. I worked open to close back in the days. 😂 I’m in 14 years with the company now...

Then worked the late sh– for 5 more.
Then actually got a week of vacation in the summer.

Worked every Saturday for 3 years. Either took vacation or got someone to trade with me. In fact had to work a lot of my SN’s. Been so many cuts in some departments that people with 15-20 years are now being forced to work weekends.
The union won’t help you because that is what the bargaining agreement says — scheduling is based off seniority day by day. They don’t spread out the days off. You probably won’t get a regular day off on a Saturday for years. The company is just following the contract.
