Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Are there overpaid employees at AT&T?

And I'm not asking about the leadership, we all know they don't deserve even a tenth of what they're getting (and don't get me started on their bonuses.) Just regular employees whose pay is much higher than their productivity. Another post here got me wondering what other people think about this...

Was a Level 1B manager (not anymore) and was told I was in a good position because I was not at the mid range of my salary because I could get bigger raises LOL That was a direct quote from my manager...1-3% raises which is barely even a cost of living raise and we got skipped one year. Worked M-F but was oncall 24/7 for virtual sites and had Saturday work at 10PM multiple times a year. Definitely underpaid but was let go and haven't missed AT&T one bit...

Making $195K a year base. I don't think I'm overpaid. Software architecture, director level. If anything, I deserve more for what I do.

My spouse works for AT&T. He makes half of what I make. So no, employees at AT&T are not overpaid. Underpaid actually. My husband and I have the same degree, experience and skill set.

I have several friends in Tech also and comparatively speaking T salaries and benefits etc. are lower than my friends in similar positions with grad degrees.

Wire tech. Under $40K a year after taxes, health insurance and dues to my completely useless union. I don't know who (besides Randall and Stankey) is getting overpaid around here, but it sure isn't me.

You can train monkeys to do my tech job and pay them with bananas, but for some reason someone in ATT/CWA seems to think that pulling cable through ceilings and terminating it at both ends should pay $89k per year...works for me!

Not saying people with only hs education don't deserve to make a good living. Some people become very skilled regardless and deserve compensation for that. But if you combine minimal education with an easy job anyone can do you are lucky to get a decent salary.

I can't speak for craft, for level 1/2 management, pay is average. My supervisor and I are both level 2, pay isn't that much different. I'm glad not having to deal with all the BS (being a people manager), less pay is fine by me.

The overpaid starts at level 3 and above, the bonus structure is absolutely outrageous. Don't take my word for it, look up the management compensation plan. It would be different if they were bringing in multi-million dollars of revenue, but you know most of them are glorified paper pushers and they also tell you that there no expense budget for buying pens and notebooks. My guess is the bonus tiers are legacy payout from the old monopoly utility past where competition is zero. It is not sustainable in the current market place. And no, we don't have revenue growth like Google and Amazon to
pay mid level management like a tech company.

I make over $120k per year with a HS diploma. But no I’m not overpaid. I’m worth that and then some. Just ask me. I’ll tell you straight up.

AT&T is fine for the benefits and pay if you ignore the daily cheerleader emails and leadership and just do your job. Why would I or anyone feel overpaid lol? The bumbling id–t leadership still somehow makes billions per quarter, they can give me a raise every month and I won't feel guilty!

Probably. Regardless of the daily posts talking about the great jobs some have gotten, most of the people I know have had to take pay cuts. Some have indeed gotten better jobs but they are people who have the skills relevant to the new technologies. In fact some of those actually did better because they hired on with smaller companies starving for those skills. Know a few who took contractor jobs with more money but they are tough. Meet deadlines or hit the road.

Yeah, there are overpaid people.

Ratty is incompetent and is overpaid and needs to go!
Stinky is incompetent and is overpaid and needs to go!
Zucher is incompetent and is overpaid and needs to go!
The board of Mis-directors areincompetent and are over paid and needs to go!

Compared to the general market, I think so. I think the average workers wages are too low anyway but att does a little better. I knew people at T whose highest qualification was a hs diploma. They had very easy jobs and made over $70k

Yes. Bigtime. I started as a grad with 50k salary. I know folks who were making 70k at that time same level. 19 yrs later, I have just crossed 6 figures with 4 promotions. Imagine those folks how much they will be making.

No, I was surplus last year. My new employer's salary offer, vacation, overall benefits were higher than AT&T's, I was shocked!!.
Schedule, Mo-Fr 7-4pm schedule, a real career, in a thriving industry, learning a lot now a days.
sorry I can't disclosed the company name for obvious reasons.
