Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What will Elliot Management do now?

On September 3, 2019, Elliot sent their letter to AT&T's Board of Directors. They indicated they had a $3.2 billion investment in the company. At a price per share of $35.38 at that time that equated to about 90,446,600 shares. (Their purchase cost per share could be slightly different depending on the actual timing of their purchases prior to the announcement). The share price is now $29.57 resulting in a loss per share for Elliot of ($5.81). or a total loss to date on their investment of approximately $526 million.

I can only guess but I would think Elliot is very unhappy about that. I think Elliot is going to really push on the Board for much management change before year-end and JS will not get the Board chair. What do other folks think?

Randall was a loose cannon. He could have cleaned the swamp in CNN, and made things non-kosher unlike all the other media controlled outlets. The powers that be could not let that happen.
So they bought into AT&T to try to take control. Randall has since proved that he is their lackey. Now they are to loot the company, and make some money. They can discard it as long as they control its policy.

Reminds me of the old saying, "What does a dog do when it actually catches the car?". Almost certainly, Elliot had no one on the inside AT&T before plopping down $3 Billion of other people's money on AT&T common shares. Which reminds me of another old saying, "If you break it; you bought it." Rut-roh, Scooby...

Even though Elliott is losing money on stock, they will sell every asset T has and s— out every drop of blood. Then they will take their money and bail. This is what they do and have always done. Shame on the sh–ty C suite for making our company so bad that the vampires came knocking!!!

The irony is that Elliott is really bad at being a Hedge Fund. They are in the bottom 20% of hedge funds and under perform the market by 3-5%. Yet, they are telling ATT how to operate. How's that working so far?

all the kids at the playground are making tik tok videos about how they want a dish on their roof to get directv so T must keep it.

kids love appointment TV viewing and slow satellite receivers. parents love added fees and long term contracts.

in the rare occasion there is a problem, who doesnt like listening for hours to the wonderful on-hold music in and getting to talk to someone half way around the world with an exotic accent that tells you to reboot your receiver.

Elliott has lost large sums of investment. AT&T is required to terminate 70% of management by 12/10/20. Please clean any covid before leaving. You may get another job as sewer cleaner.

AT&T paid a total dividend of $1.55 between September 2019 and July 2020.

05-01-20 $0.52
02-03-20 $0.52
11-01-19 $0.51

Thus, Elliot’s net loss is as follows.

(5.81 - 1.55) * 90,446,600 = $385 Million

The OP is forgetting to factor in the dividend payout in their loss calculations.

Not a smart investment. Sounds like the stock options they gave out around 2000 worthless. The stock options were in the upper 30’s and 40’s so just more of the same. Elliot got att’s.

There’s going to be a push to dump DirecTV. Yes it will be at a significant loss. But there’s no real reason to hang on to it. And whatever they get for it will improve the balance sheet.
