Is any position safe here at AT&T?

Thoughts?

R&D is safe and solid as a rock. We are actually hiring, software engineers and software architects. Wire technicians need not apply.

India jobs are safe, and they need to hire many more there to replace many usa jobs. They can hire 4 or 5 in india for 1 in usa, so att exec's are chowing down on the curry and tandoori all they can.

Specials Techs and ABFS Techs are safe in District 6. And very little work. Go figure.

I heard from a reliable source that ATT is still hiring techs in AZ. He said techs are sitting around with nothing to do because there isn’t enough work, yet they’re still hiring! No wonder why this company is in such bad shape, a communications company where nobody knows how to communicate! Upper management is clueless about what’s happening in various parts of the country. UNBELIEVABLE!

I agree with the mobility sentiment. Tech on the wireless side of the house. If I was still there, I'd be taking the appropriate tests to qualify, so if and when an opening appeared I could submit on it.

Service techs. They are forced unlimited overtime every week. Some already In 6 figures half way through the year. If they layoff the ones left won’t get to go home. Lol

The closer you are to the cash drawer the safer you are has been my rule of thumb for about the last decade and I haven't been proven wrong yet.

Yes, level 4 and up. The flattening of layers never took place and if it were to happen upper management wants it at the lower levels.

Most states are “Employment at Will” states, and not aware of any position with an employment contract. Opportunity is the only thing to count on.

Underneath a second level’s desk is considered a safe position.

Can't believe you used the words 'safe' and 'AT&T' in the same sentence.

No job has ever been “safe”

But, mobility is probably the safest, you just never hear anything on this board since it’s 99.9% wireline topics.

And I understand that even redundant positions in mobility aren’t totally safe. But, this side is at least keeping this company afloat.

Yes, was informed by the union that 6 newly hired Network Technical Specialists recently started in Mesa, AZ. So, apparently there are some safe job titles out there.

Yes, it seems as though technicians doing or assigned to do ABFS installations are safe all over the country especially in the SW area. Not one mention of layoffs and they’re still hiring NTS technicians in AZ from what I’m hearing from a reliable source!
