Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

“The best distributor of HBO Max is in fact our own company,” Stankey said. “Our best engagement with HBO Max comes from AT&T customers.”

"we are not trying to build the same product as netflix."

This really confuses me - what kind of service do they think they need to build?

Stanky says stuff like this because he thinks he's playing 8-dimensional chess in the media market and saying things like this make him think he sounds smart, but he's barely playing tic tac toe against himself and he's losing.

Well, when they say "we are not trying to build the same product as netflix." That only means one thing. You can't charge more than netflix. Clearly you don't have a better product the only other option is to charge the same or less. The only way to charge more is to Actually attempt to replicate netflix but offer more than that, maybe more content or even a better app then them and we are not doing that.

Brilliant Stanky dude. We own HBO so we distribute it. Let’s do iq tests on acquisition customers you know only those 1 standard deviation above the mean can have the privilege of getting top shelf programming. Also 2 weeks paystubs and high credit scores only. The end game is one customer paying $1 billion a mth for unlimited access.

Perhaps because they are locked in via a sticky bundle and have no choice? It's like our version of Stockholm Syndrome. Just wait till they expire out and watch them roll off in record numbers, just like what happened with DTV. People are not as stupid and gullible as Stankey thinks.
