Verizon tried that lie as well. All phones won't stop working. They are trying to sell phones. Hello.
I'll wait 'til 22 so that the newly named company that takes over the ragged remnants of T will be from where I get my phone. Otherwise, they'll say "you have an AT&T phone and need to buy a new one."
I just paid off 2 Samsung Galaxy Active phones from a BOGO deal that I ended up paying for both phones. I Have unsuccessfully argued with customer service for over 2 years. Once they were paid off, the batteries blew up. I went with TMobile and got new phones with TMobile.
No story here......all wireless providers do this with older technology so they can reuse spectrum for newer technology. Please try and understand the business OP.

Didn't AT&T do that with the forced migration from 2G to 3G? at&t was the #1 largest carrier by number of subscribers at the time. Wasn't this also about the time at&t reached peak subscriber, and churn began to climb? T-Mobile still operates 2G in guard band between licensed channels [dead space]. I don't think they will be going totally dark on 2G or 3G anytime soon. With acquired 194MHz of continuous sub 6 bandwidth in the acquired Sprint 2.5 spectrum[ not even considering the rest of their spectrum holdings], I don't think there is pressure to go dark on 3G either. The smart thing to do would to be for AT&T to offer free upgrades.... that's exactly what the competition will do.
I guess we’re just looking for reasons to complain on here. T-Mobile is doing the same thing and shutting down its 3G network much sooner. Start now and you complain, start late next year and you’d complain we started too late. Not to mention this article is almost 2 months old
