Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Would you recommend Allstate to anybody as a place to work?

I used to do it, but now I warn people away.

Early on I referred two of my closest associates from another firm. Within a few months of their hire, this “leadership” regime changed and to this day I feel guilty. Several more wanted to come over, and advised them to stay far away.

My kids wanted to work here, I said no. Besides they really don't need to work anyway. I'm making $$$$$

As an interim job to stave off unemployment? Yes. As a career no. There are better companies for careers.

I don’t think Allstate will be good place to work for the next few years.. at least while they restructure. Unless you are an executive officer or board member making bonuses off all these acquisitions and reduction of overhead expenses (I.e. employees and property leases) I would suggest everyone to STAY FAR AWAY from Allstate and any Allstate affiliate.

If I had a friend who graduated and wanted office experience and was working as a cart pusher at Walmart or Target with absolutely no benefits or paid holidays I would.. otherwise H*LL NO!!

No to the insurance industry in general, it used to be a thriving solid middle class career. The industry in general is operating on a race to the bottom. Alot of societal changes on the horizontal with self driving cars, car sharing economy, insuretech disruption. Too many variables and too unstable to risk a career path.

Maybe the layoffs needed to be done, but that doesn’t mean I would recommend someone work here either. Constant threat of being deemed “bloated” (even if you’re not) constant micromanaging at all levels, declining benefits, substandard pay for the industry, constant threat of being laid off so they can send your job to India, culture of fear/ignorance. I would feel bad if someone took a job at this sh–hole because I recommended it

Yes. Like it or not, this move was needed. Allstate has been so multi-layered that it was bloated and couldn't keep up with Geico and progressive. I get a bunch of you are mad about losing your jobs and want to blame Allstate...but the fact of the matter is, this needed to be done.
