Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Layoffs and surpluses will soon cease

I think the relentless rounds of non-stop layoffs and surpluses are about to come to an end. I think the current leadership understands that mode of operation is counterproductive. My guess is, if you made it this far, and you’re still here, you will be safe until you decide to retire.

They still haven’t gotten to Octoberfest which is just around the corner! Certainly, you can expect more layoffs to come before the year’s end! Stand by...more to come!

A different thread says T's total debt is now at $191B, up from $161B. Warner Media isn't producing anything, DTV continues to lose customers, and you think the layoffs are going to stop? Layoffs will continue until T gets a handle on their debt and that could take a decade or more.

They've got to invest in 5G upgrades, fiber to the home and business, and media. Where do you think that money comes from? The correct answer is layoffs, real estate sales, selling assets, and shutting down businesses.

Surplus's will continue until the goal is met. Still thousands to go.

I would think most folks whose time and tenure far exceeds retirement age would welcome a severance package.

And I do not buy those folks are a significant target of the company - as long as they are still solid contributors in a needed area.

Be careful what you wish for. If surpluses are over then you can bet they will start outsourcing you and letting the vendor fire you within a year. And, you can be sure these vendors are not going to give you 6 months of severance.

Unless of course if your time and tenure far exceeds retirment age, they'll go after you like they have been coming after me trying to make life miserable at ATT, Unfortunately!

Wishing everyone the best. I am blessed. I was surplussed 7/24, today I was made an offer by one of ATT competitors. Salary was slightly less than I was getting at t but I have access to restricted stock which I was not getting at t. I am thankful as I was anxious. Again all the best to everyone, I wont bad mouth T as I was thankful I lasted so long given the frequent layoffs. I hope they figure things out and turn things around. Too many people will be harmed if what they are doing continues.

Oh no, they will continue. Even Legg said though maybe not in his group for the year, but some layoffs could still happen, and then next year, a whole new year. Once the Legg org gets more set, then by 2nd had next year more layoffs under him.

More layoffs at the end of the month. That’s been confirmed in McElfresh org. 2 week notice is all you’re getting and you aren’t allowed to look for another job internally.

OP, you could not be more wrong. At the end of July, Ann Chow said in her town hall that the majority of labor force reductions in Business would occur by the end of September—expect more lay-offs this month.

And Stankey has said publicly that AT&T is in the midst of a three year $6 billion dollar cost reduction effort, of which labor costs are a significant part.

The lay-offs will continue, no doubt about it.
