Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

High Level VPs fighting to keep their staff!

I am a long time admin staff for a VP and this is first time he is not having me edit his decks. They have been meeting a lot recently. Other admins confirming high level VPs are fighting each other to keep their staff but also throwing younger people and especially new hires under the bus. It is the good ole boys network at work again. You are going to have to be very close to VP to make it past the new round of cuts.

Funny they are still making decks!

I don't know that they are fighting for their employees, more like tryin to preserve their own status, power, and compensation...

Op sounds legit, I believe him/her and thank you for transparency. This is actually a good thing if you ask me, fighting for your most senior level employees is right thing. I do believe first in last out on average and this is coming from a 5-10 year employee.

I don't think laying off someone 53 vs let's say lower 30s is the right thing to do if they can both accomplish the same task. I do think pay cuts for the long time employees may be warranted though.

This thread is everything that is wrong with EM. Infighting, suspicion, and mistrust. Confirms everything we have always thought that people are always ready to throw someone under the bus here. Just look at how everyone is tearing down the OP even if they don’t know his/her facts.

Been around the company for 2+ decades. Seems like poster could be from LAWS or other similar function. Worked with them few times and seen admins be involved in work product over there.

OP here. I didn’t think there would be so much anger towards my post. I am not trying to out anyone but I do not work with engineers or geologist. Our company is bigger than just everything going into two buckets, downstream or upstream. It may surprise someone of you but those are not the only functions at XOM. So take that for what you will. And I do more than edit decks and notes. Do have a good night everyone.

We hire the best and brightest to edit decks....this appears to be a troll.

Former planner here- admins certainly do not edit decks. And definitely not VP level decks.

The only thing the VPs fight for, it’s for their own job and benefits.
No Executive I ever worked for cared for anyone’s but him/herself.
Maybe they just want the others to lose

@1oib, no, "High level VP Admin" ... Who talks like that, puhh-leaze! We may be angry for being treated unjustly over here, but we are still "the best and brightest" for being hired into XOM (lol). we won't fall for just anything, trolls need to do better than that to entertain us

You are probably not a 'VP Admin'.
But you are probably a 'Groom of the Stool'.
Safe job btw.

Not letting you edit the decks because they’re talking about cutting the ridiculous amounts of admins.

Wait a minute! I thought that the good ol’ boys network had been neutralized once our new behavior expectations came out.

I’m not so sure about this one. All the VP now have a behaviors coach and they are touring out new improved behaviors to win!

Nooooooooooooooot!

To the long time admin, good for you in speaking up. Glad to see some good people left and are not afraid to call out the shameless VP’s and managers.

Why the strong need to keep it quiet? The OP is anonymous. Keep it quiet now, the presidents were all saying how the pip-Ed people deserve their privacy and to keep it quiet. No - people need to speak up especially when it’s borderline unethical - not in this case though but transparency has never been a strength for XOM , might as well share what’s going on.

OP deserves an applause. Bravo!
Thank you for speaking up. And thank you for the insight.
Some of the hardest workers in Exxon are the admins that make it all run.

Hopefully, you and the other admin’s you reference are included in the next round of cuts. Certainly would not want you as a admin myself since you clearly have trouble keeping quiet. Shame on you.
