Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I remember Jeff said the same when he took over ATO.

Q about Israel Team, AT&T Israel is formerly Interwise, (Interwise was a company ATT purchased ~10 years ago). AT&T has a Software development team there that are AT&T staff. (The get stuff done and they are NOT AMDOCs.) There also was a separate Foundry on the AMDOCs campus.

I think it's about 400 staff, again, very much dev-ops, cloud, SW dev, get sh– done.

Most of the application and platform subject matter exports have been outsourced to IBM, Tech M etc . The majority of the rebadged outsourced folks are already gone with IBM outsourcing to India after their one year contracts were up. Others decided to leave or retire once outsourced so it will be an uphill battle trying to consolidate applications/platforms without these knowledgeable engineers, developers and architects. Hopefully, the Israeli Team is not Amdocs as many have experience working with them. Nice folks but I am not aware of any success stories that came out of collaboration with Amdocs as most initiatives die a slow death when funding has been exhausted.

Is there a possibility that AT&T employees can end up getting rebadged to work or the Israeli group? Can someone who knows please elaborate on this Israeli development team? When I hear this, I think Amdocs. AT&T has a long relationship with Amdocs, in the late '90's bought/own a large chunk of them. Also, I think there was a Foundry there that did something rather specific. Foundry's I believe were a John Stankey Idea. Now, and more recently, almost all of them have been shut down, including the one in Israel if I'm not mistaken. Maybe this is in part them, the Israeli development team?

When he says his group is not affected, does that mean his whole organization all legs, no pun, right down to all departments? Or does that mean him and his circle of direct reports and that management, and other departments further out, still under him can still face being surplus?

I remember some time ago, Scott Mair saying there were no specific lay-off plans he was aware of. And then two weeks later, slam.

Reality is, when the guys in HR/ finance control most of these. Legg may think he had some power, but he doesn’t.

What does the Israeli org do? I’ve never heard of them until recently. What products they have developed for AT&T?

these people will say anything, they want people to get work done, what do expect them to say? the numbers at at&t speak for themselves. ~280K employees 4 years ago, now around ~220K, i think

It is interesting that he mentioned Employee Contractor re-balancing twice. So if 30-40% Surplus is off the table is 30-40% re-balance on the table?

More hiring and focus in Israel is probably something they are doing to make Paul Singer and Elliott group happy. Paul Singer is big supporter of Israel and always wants jobs to go there. So it may be they are letting Jeremy not fire people in exchange for Israel doing most future software development for this American company. Just sad.

Jeremy Legg seemed pretty optimistic about his work on HBO Max, and honestly I was hoping he was right. Alas, I forgot about the touch of death that AT&T brings to everything that is not their core competency, which is connectivity.

Jeremy will be outa' here before 01/01/2021. Guaranteed. He's a smart guy and he must realize that he inherited a no-win situation. Consolidating all of the AT&T vestigial systems and platforms is a $10 Billion investment. He has neither the staff, the backstory nor the bench strength to do it. He will bail. No doubt about it.

Does vendors or contractors "acquiring employees" count as no layoffs, we've seen this show before.. Guaranteed lots will change from now till the 24th when he meets with the board.. don't celebrate just yet. why do you think he said everything is operating on 3-month cycles.. and subject to change.. very weasly if you ask me
