Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Has anyone thought of this?

Allstate is going from 14 regional zones to 4. Arizona, Chicago, Dallas, and North Carolina. How are the other 10 offices going to be impacted? How would Allstate allow you to reside in another state outside of your zone?
I have done some research with other Major Insurance Companies were they are out of Arizona, Dallas, New York and in order to apply for a position you have to reside in a certain zip code.
So I’m GUESSING if your fortunate not to get laid off Allstate will offer you a move package. If the Employee rejects they probably wouldn’t offer severance or would they? It would definitely be cheaper for Allstate to offer move packages instead of severance knowing a lot would not move.

It depends, there are locations that only housed a regional office and those will be gone fast, there are other regional offices that are housed in buildings with claims, tech groups and others, those will see reduction in space but can still have a place to sit. Allstate has certain requirements to have you WFH so if close to a location easier to have you go in there than WFH and have them send you all the stuff you need.

To the person who asked how it works tax-wise. If you live in NC, you will pay NC taxes. You might report to the organization that is housed in NY, but you do not live there. Your "tax home" is NC. (I've been doing taxes as a side gig for years. Never could get a position in Allstate's Corporate Tax department - their loss!)

But how does that work tax wise?

If you work in, say, New York City, but you technically work out of Charlotte, NC, wouldn’t you be essentially paying double the state tax?

They have been pretty clear in that positions that are retained and kept will in most cases be remote and work from home positions. I would assume only the most high up in the food chain would be offered any relocation benefits where required. Many regional positions were already remote and many live outside of the regions they work with.

I could see them offering worker bees packages but it’s going to be like $1000-$1500 tops, which we all know is not enough to break lease/sell house, movers, exc.

But hey, they “offered to help you move”

I don’t see them offering move packages for the worker bees.

I’m not 100% sure but I believe this would not work from a tax prospective.

They will move to virtual or work from home positions.
