Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Dear AT&T Employees

Dear AT&T Employees: As someone who deeply cares about my colleagues please listen, take care of yourself. Update your resume, update your LinkedIn profile, and build out your network of contacts starting now. Get enough sleep, eat right, exercise, and spend time with your family. Just focusing on getting the work done as you have done in the past is no guarantee that you will keep your job.

Oh, and if you have a former colleague or soon to be former colleague, understand that LinkedIn is very important in any job search. So go ahead and add them as a contact, endorse skills, and write that recommendation. While it may take five minutes out of your day it means the world to them.

After all this is over, all that will really matter is how we treated each other.

@3ify+165OHD8l yeah, no. I understand why you are so bitter and angry. Maybe even trying to stir up some controversy on this board (for whatever reason; hey The Layoff, do you need more ad views/clicks?). The OP sounds sincere and the advice is sound. If the OP is a VP, well then I wish he was my VP and giving that advice before July 10th. Just sayin'

I am the OP. I am far from a VP. I am concerned my colleagues are so busy getting work done that they neglect to take care of themselves. There is also a profound disappointment in a few work friends who have said one thing but did another. While their behavior is a reflection of them, rather than me, it still hurts. I am not a pariah, I am a person. This lay off was a bloodbath. So many really terrific, hard-working people who successfully delivered results for AT&T were laid off. While it would be easier to have a job while there is a pandemic and unrest in the country, today I am free of corporate shenanigans. Good will and peace to all.

MIss a due date. Ok. Miss again, first line fired. Next first line takes over. Four first levels in 1 1/2 years, SSIM. Second level is required to get rid of first levels.

op sounds like a typical vp that is part of the club and is safe or an hr troll. hope you enjoy your years at att.

remember no other company is ran like the cesspool att if you are staying try to change things and make the company better instead of telling us how to treat each other. att is a cesspool and hope you can look in the mirror when you get up in the morning.

I posted these exact sentiments a few months ago, speaking from experience. Received many more downvotes than upvotes, but I’m glad to see that many more are getting the picture now.

I took the severance as my run is done. Worked the line gang 22 fun years. Honored to work with all of them and can say I was part of a century old tradition. I would have done it for half the pay but the harder they pushed the more we made. God bless the linemen. Don't now many that didn't leave busted up

"LinkedIn used to be good. Now it's turned into Facebook. Not that useful any more."

Your opinion aside, you really don't want to be applying or interviewing somewhere and not have a LinkedIn profile...and it's value in networking alone make it essential.

Nanodegrees from Udacity for example? I don't think so. They make you look like losers. Nanodegrees are glorified trade school certificates. Employers really don't care about nanodegrees. You are much better off developing an app demo, or an actual system that is live, or even contribute to your GitHub showing your quality code.

Please take care dear AT&T colleagues. And remember to vote in November like your life depends on it. 4 more years of keeping America great folks!

Don't forget to highlight your nanodegrees on your LinkedIn profile. It's what every employer outside of AT&T is looking for in new hires.

LinkedIn is not a FB or Twatter, it is superb, and as the OP said, keep it up-to-date, and get connected. Truth, should have long since been out there and keeping it active. And yes, dear G-d, please take care of yourselves. Easy to say, hard to do in these distracting times.
