Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

More shady customer tactics

Amid an economy-crushing pandemic, AT&T has decided that now is the best time to send a scaremongering email to some customers, telling them that their device "is not compatible with the new network and you need to replace it to continue receiving service." The email conveniently doesn't even explicitly mention that this will only affect customers as late as February 2022, only linking to that information.

Funny thing, I had a friend get this email a few months ago right after she bought her Galaxy S10 and she was really worried about it. Only took a few seconds to realize the email lacked vital information and that she was perfectly fine.

Most phones that don't support 3G, at least supports 2.5G. AT&T will be running 2.5G Edge for some time to come.

The 2G service has been shut down a while ago. Now, it's time for 3G. If somebody has a 3G only phone, the phone will need to be upgraded to handle 4G/LTE at least.

This should be illegal you should be able to keep your phone as long as you like. No worries other companies will take you as a customer. What now att is going to tell people to upgrade their phone. Bs att has to deal with and not force upgrades the customer decides when they upgrade.

Just more bullying by att to get revenue because they need more cash flow. So glad I don’t buy my phones from att or use their service. Such a corrupt company. I guess the pebble beach gang can buy a new phone every year.

They are totally in the wrong here and need to learn to support their customers. Otherwise I am sure there are better companies to support the customers.

Again the company is using the Microsoft model but just applying it to hardware.

Stupid and this should be illegal and shows how desperate they are getting. Scumbags and snake oil salesmen. I hope people leave in exodus att doesn’t deserve their customers.

What should they do instead, not tell anyone until a month before it happens? Or just do what they've always done, which is never retire anything and spend more and more to maintain it all?

One of the reasons for the truly despicable actions the "leaders" are taking now is their own stupidity and gutlessness over the years in always paying 90% of the cost to migrate to something new, but never 100% of it. Result being we support services any rational person would have thought went away decades ago.

Sorry, this company is run by absolute scumbags, but they are right on this one.
