Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Yet another BBV 'townhall' tomorrow

Gee, I wonder whether layoffs will be discussed.

Oh, who am I kidding. A lot of BS pep talk about the journey that lies ahead, how we will win together, requests for being agile, and encouragement to have faith in the lies of our CEO.

Sprinkled liberally with jargon, double-talk, and nonsense.

Finished with a dash of softball questions that nobody asks and that nobody cares about.

Although there were very few specifics about layoffs on this call I was struck by a few things:

  1. Welday mentioned that they will be aggressive in trying to protect as many positions as possible and that there is a freeze in filling any new openings
  2. An open acknowledgment that T is suffering from a much higher rate of customers cancelling video than the industry as a whole, which is basically admitting that T leadership and management are to blame for the high DTV losses
  3. Watching Cheryl Choy stutter and bumble when asked about expanding fiber, because right now nobody can get it.
  4. Finally saying that T leaders screwed the pooch by having too many video services/options and that it was confusing and turning away customers.

All in all a few rather refreshing honest comments where T took the blame for what everyone knew: video losses are made worse by T mistakes, mismanagement, and neglect, and that the video strategy up until now was a mess.

After this our L4 held a call and told us that the layoffs are coming, but likely not until September.

Oh, and I dig Ms. Choy's funky look. it's a refreshing change from the tedious, conservative, midwestern, boring look of the rest of the T execs.

It seems to me that ALL technicians in district 7 are safe! As a matter of fact, there is still hiring of new techs, just added around 4 in the last couple of weeks! Can’t understand why impacted techs in other areas of the geographic location aren’t bumping these new hires with no experience?

Once again T "leadership" proves just how incredibly insensitive and inconsiderate they really are by scheduling another of these stupid and pointless meetings a few days before announcing layoffs within the group.

One would think that anyone with an ounce of common sense and compassion would wait until AFTER the announcement before holding their juvenile pep rally.

More lipstick on a pig

Same template over and over again. Town hall with nothing to say claiming there is transparency here followed by layoffs followed by another town hall telling people to keep working their a– off and forget about the ones that were just sacrificed.

Our townhall yesterday was over an hour of AVPs introducing their pets and sharing pictures and stories of Amazing lives. The Q&A portion was maybe 10 minutes? And started off with “I don’t have any news on surplus but i’d Be lying if I said you were safe”
